REUNION • VERNON

"are you finished yet?" you called out to your boyfriend, vernon, who was still in the bathroom doing God knows what.

"yeah! hold on!" you rolled your eyes.

"there ain't finna be no more food if i hold on, babe. let's go." you checked your phone and it read 3:44pm along with other notifications from your parents and aunts wondering where you were.

just then the bathroom door opened.

"how do i look?"

you smiled. "it's a perfect fit."

you looked at the shirt you and vernon where wearing: (y/l/n) family reunion!

"it feels weird.." he squirmed.

"what you mean? the fabric?"

he chuckled, "no, just wearing the shirt. it feels weird because.." he stops talking.

"because what?" you raise one eyebrow.

"because, what if they don't like me?" he starts to walk back into the bathroom.

"vernon, they'll like you," you walk in behind him and wrap your arms around his waist. "trust me."

he slowly nods. "if you say so.."

"my baby! you're finally here!" your mother runs over to where you and vernon where walking in. she swallows you in a hug. "i've missed you so much!"

"i've missed you too, mommy." she lets you go.

"oh hello vernon! i almost didn't see you there, honey." she gives him a big hug. he returns it.

"i've missed you too! the food smells good." they back away from the hug and she grabs our hands.

"i'm glad. i want y'all to say hi to y'all's aunts and uncles."

"hey y'all! it's (y/n)!" just then, 10 people came running and walking in your direction.

vernon found himself next to you and grabbed your hand, squeezing it. "vernon, it's ok. they ain't gonna kill you."

"(y/n)! look at you, all grown up!" your aunt tells you. "and it seems you've gotten someone on your side." she winks at you.

"hi, i'm vernon," he reaches his hand out from your aunt and your uncles to shake. "nice to meet you."

"and he has great manners!" your uncle added. "welcome to the family, nephew!"

he looks at you and smiles.

"see, i told you they would like you," you kiss his cheek. "happy?"

"very.."
