Cheryl POV

We finally closed the case. Toni and I finally did it. After months of witness interviews, rewatching CCTV and flipping through reports, we finally caught the son of a bitch.

Although the best part of closing a case was the satisfaction that the world is a little less evil with them locked up, the drinks afterwards with Toni came as a close second.

It had somehow become a tradition for us, ever since we locked up the Brooklyn Bomber, to end up at my place with a glass in hand. Tonight was no exception to that rule. The arrest of Chris Alby meant we could finally say goodbye to a two month old case and say hello to a brand new bottle of liquor.

Toni was making herself at home, as always, in the kitchen preparing a bowl of snacks whilst I lazily poured myself another drink.

"Hey," Toni said, entering the lounge. "I grabbed another bottle so we don't have to get up again. Anything good on tonight?" she asked, gesturing to the TV.

I ignored the question as I drained the rest of my glass, before holding it out to her for a refill.

"Woah Cher, did you finish this bottle already?"

"It wasn't full when I started, I've only had three."

Toni eyes me suspiciously with a smirk on her face before shrugging and sitting down next to me.

"And to answer your question," I say, pouring my drink. "No, there's nothing good on TV."

"Alright, I'll go get a movie. Anything you in the mood for?"

"Just grab a couple and bring back the options."

While she was gone, I finished the fourth drink. I'm not usually much of a drinker but I couldn't help myself tonight. Maybe I was still on edge from the case. But I felt something different tonight.

My entire body stiffened with surprise when Toni came back into the room. "Shit, someone's jumpy." Toni remarked.

"Yeah sorry, I feel different tonight."

"What's up? You've had three drinks, you should be the crazy drunk you usually are by now. I thought you were stressed about the case but we've closed it."

I didn't know what to tell her because I'm not sure I even knew why I was feeling so off so i just responded with "actually I've finished four now."

"Maybe you just need to fuck," she said with a soft laugh that showed she was clearly joking. I knew she was joking.

I looked at her before softly muttering, "yeah, maybe I do."

I averted eye contact with her, despite knowing she would never judge me.

"I can leave if you're not up to watching a movie."

We both knew that her leaving wouldn't be because I wasn't in the mood for a movie but rather it was about leaving me to get myself off.

"I don't want to watch a movie," I told her. I let my eyes drift over to her. "But I don't want you to go either." I was hoping that my eyes said the things I couldn't bring myself to say.

Toni raised an eyebrow, studying me to find any trace of a joke and once she found only a hopeful face looking back at her, she replied. "Cheryl, you're drunk. I'm not doing anything you can't properly consent to. That's fucked up."

"I'm not hearing a no. I mean, of course I heard a no and I respect that but you said no because i'm drunk so what if i'm-" I spoke quickly as I slurred my words. I slowed down to end the phrase, "-not drunk?"
