Proof

A man meets a woman.
Certain of his attraction, the man offers himself entirely to her.
"I need comfort," the woman cries.
   The man embraces her.

But this was not enough.

"I need you to prove you care about me."
The man, wishing to do more gives her a single rose.

"I need you to prove you'd do anything to show you care."
The man scales the tallest mountain to which he finds a single silver stone.
   He gives it to her.

"I understand you care, but it isn't enough."

Frustrated, the man tells her he cannot do anymore, and he leaves.
   The woman cries.
The man, determined to prove himself goes to meet the woman once more.

He places his hand upon his chest, rips himself open and gives her his heart.
   The woman looks stunned.

"I am glad you figured it out, but it is too late."
The woman having felt relief for one less burden,
Had moved on in a mere night.

The man stood there with nothing else to give,
He knew not himself anymore,
But a vessel of his former self.
A pain to last a lifetime.
