(Y/N) pov

Sleep wouldn't come. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, listening to the faint sounds of the city beyond the window. The quiet hum of life carried on in the distance, but here, in the stillness of the room, my thoughts refused to settle. I turned onto my side, then onto my back again, wings shifting uncomfortably beneath me. No matter how many times I adjusted, the restless energy inside me wouldn't fade.

With a quiet sigh, I gave up. Slipping out from under the covers, I padded barefoot across the cool floor and out into the hallway. My feet carried me toward a familiar door before I even realized it. Hawks' room. I hesitated for a moment before carefully pushing the door open just a crack.

Inside, the dim light from the moon illuminated his figure. He lay on his stomach, one arm tucked under the pillow, his wings draped lazily across the bed. The usual smirk that played on his lips was nowhere to be seen—just a peaceful, relaxed expression. It was rare to see him like this. So still. So unguarded.

I watched for just a moment longer before quietly closing the door again. I turned away and slipped out of the house altogether, stepping into the crisp night air. The moment I spread my wings, the cool breeze caught beneath them, lifting me effortlessly into the sky.

I soared higher, leaving the ground behind as I hovered above the rooftops. The city stretched out beneath me, glowing with thousands of tiny lights, but up here, it was quiet. Just me, the wind, and the endless sky. The full moon shone bright, casting its silver glow across everything. The stars twinkled faintly in the vast darkness, and for the first time in a while, I let myself breathe.

Then, warmth. A hand gently took mine. I turned to see Hawks beside me, his golden eyes reflecting the moonlight.

"Beautiful," he murmured.

I tilted my head. "What is?"

"Your wings," he said, before glancing around at the night sky. "The scenery..." His gaze returned to mine, softer now. "You."

My chest tightened slightly at the tenderness in his voice. I smiled, squeezing his hand in return. Then, a dull ache spread through my back. I inhaled sharply, my wings faltering slightly. Hawks reacted instantly, his arms looping around my waist to keep me steady.

"Guess we need to work on strengthening them," he noted, adjusting his grip as I leaned into him for support.

I nodded, rolling my shoulders to ease the strain. "They're still growing, though. We should wait until they're fully developed first."

He hummed in agreement, but a second later, his expression shifted. His brows furrowed slightly as he glanced at my wings again, then back at his own.

"Wait a second..." His eyes widened. "Are your wings already as big as mine!?"

I smirked. "Yup."

He froze, processing.

Then, in the most dramatic display of frustration I'd ever seen, he dropped straight down, landing on a rooftop with an audible thud.

I hovered for a moment, watching as he paced in circles, muttering under his breath. Then, to my complete delight, he pouted. Not just a regular pout—full-blown, toddler-who-didn't-get-their-way pouting.

I bit back a laugh and descended after him, touching down lightly.

"You have to be kidding me," he groaned, running a hand through his hair. "It took me years to get these wings, and you just—what? Grew a matching pair overnight!?"

I pressed a hand to my mouth, stifling my giggles. "Hey, it's not my fault I'm just naturally gifted."

He turned to me with a deadpan expression. "I hate you."

I grinned. "No, you don't."

He sighed dramatically. "No, I don't."

I nudged his shoulder playfully. "You jealous?"

"Not jealous—just mildly offended by the sheer injustice of it all."

I burst out laughing, shaking my head. "Oh, please. You're acting like I stole your entire personality."

He crossed his arms. "Well, if you start developing feather blades, then we're gonna have a problem."

I smirked. "Noted."

After another long sigh, he turned and trudged toward the house, grumbling under his breath the entire way. I giggled, following him inside. Yes, I did get a punishment for teasing him.

And yes, it was absolutely worth it.
