Chapter One
Words: 482I opened my eyes as my consciousness had gotten back to me. Okay, let's run things again to make sure I don't have post-space memory loss. My name is Celeste Laurent, I'm 19, and...I'm on a mission in space with four others. I pushed my hands on the glass in front of me, which triggered the capsule to open. I rubbed my eyes and climbed out, finding myself being the first one awake.
I held my shaking arms as it was freezing in here, trying to keep my teeth from chattering.Walking down the aisle, my footsteps echoing through the empty room, are four capsules lined up with my crewmates. I went to Black's capsule and leaned down, looking closer at his features as my breath started to fog the glass. He always hid his face with a mask, it's amazing how much he looks like his father.
I don't even know his name—we aren't allowed to after what happened with the last crew. We're the last unit that they have left...
I jumped as I heard the squeaking sound of a capsule opening with a burst of air. I turned around to see Orange, holding her head as she climbs out of the capsule.
"Pink," she starts, her voice raspy as she clears her throat, "How long were you up?""Not long," I stated, going back to my capsule to start putting on my uniform while Orange did the same.
"Should we wake the others—."
"No," I interrupted, "They'll wake up on their own. I'm going to look around, Orange, do what you want."
"You know you can call me by my name? I really don't mind," Orange laughs, rubbing the back of her neck, "It's a little weird for you to call me by a color."
"I don't want to know. Stay focused, we're the last unit they have," I sharply say, walking out of the room. I put on my helmet and found myself in a cafeteria with five blue tables spread out with the unnatural, yellow lights above me.
I walked up to the middle table and found a laminated, parchment note taped on the table along with an emergency call button. It reads:
"Unit Five,
Congratulations on having a safe journey, assuming that you are reading this right now. As I recall, it's just Pink, White, Orange, Brown, and Black? A shame what happened with the others, truly. For the sake of the Game, I had this spaceship be assigned to Unit Five as it was your parents' before their unfortunate disappearance. There are two of you that isn't the same as the rest—imposters as I like to refer to them. May you Repent and receive Forgiveness."
- A FriendRepent? What kind of cryptic message is this? This has to be a joke—I mean, "imposters", are you serious?
