Dylan and Tyler took Quinn to King's Cross station in London. It wasn't her first time here, their nanny would take all three of them when her brothers went off to Hogwarts so she wasn't left in the house alone for ages. It was as busy as usual as she walked through the station with her cart full of wizard books, clothes and a snowy owl, however nobody looked at her long enough to think it was strange. As she walked quickly through the large crowds of muggles and potential classmates, she found herself standing in between two platforms. "This is it." her brother piped up. "Are you ready?" he asked, looking at Quinn - almost smirking at the fact it's her first time. "You've seen us do this before. Just grab onto your cart tightly and run!"
Dylan did it first, spiriting at the wall then disappearing through it. Then Tyler did the same. It was only her left and she had to admit, she did feel anxious. Her hands gripped the handle of the heavy cart and started to push it, she got faster and faster until she hit the wall - fully expecting to smack into it and falling over, like her whole life was just one enormous practical joke. But it wasn't. As she stood there, watching parents run after their children, hearing students inside the train fight about who sits where and rats and cats being tossed to people through the train windows, she realised in front of her was the Hogwarts express. Her brothers laughed at her as they were used to seeing this chaos.
"Will you be okay getting on yourself? The train leaves in 3 minutes, make sure you get on it!" Dylan said as Quinn nodded and her brothers ran off to join their friends. Quinn, still in awe, pushed her cart down the end of the train and got on the very last carriage. There were a couple people sitting on what looked like very comfortable seats. As they chatted among themselves, Quinn started to push her cart onto the train, one of the wheels getting caught on the gap. As it finally freed itself, she felt the cart stop moving. She looked up at the object that was in her way but it wasn't an object at all, in fact a boy with white-blonde hair stood in her way, one of his hands on the opposite end of the cart, holding it in place so she couldn't get on. "And what do you think you're doing?" he spat. "Haven't seen you around, don't you know you have to be in Slytherin to sit here? You're probably a pathetic Hufflepuff."
"I-I..." she stammered out, not knowing how to respond. She was scared, she didn't know what house she was in so she couldn't tell what part of the train to sit at. Walking down to the bottom of the train took long enough and she only had about 30 seconds to get on the train before it started moving, but now this rude boy was in her way.
"Have nothing to say?" he spoke again, turning to his friends who found a seat of four to sit at. By now the train conductor was walking down towards them, making sure that everyone was on. But everyone was on, except Quinn.
"What's going on here?" he asked. "The train's delayed because of you two, just get in!" he raised his voice at them as he helped push her cart into the carriage. All the parents were looking at her and she felt a little embarrassed until she turned around and saw that everyone in the carriage, including the blonde boy were also staring at her, but they looked angry. The doors shut and the train started moving. She could feel the heat rise to her cheeks as she tried to move past them and to the door to find another seat. She felt like breaking down and crying, she had already caused such a scene and an embarrassment and she wasn't even at Hogwarts yet.
As she slowly pushed her cart down the claustrophobic corridors of the train, she looked inside every compartment to find a seat, but every one of them were full. She came to one that had enough space for her and her owl, a man asleep in the corner and a ginger boy across from them, next to the ginger sat a very pretty girl was long brown hair, in between them was a cage with a sleeping cat inside. Next to the sleeping man was another boy with very dark hair, he had his head facing the window so she couldn't see his face. She knocked on the glass door and the three of them turned, the man in the corner still sound asleep, she slid the door open and asked "can i sit here? Everywhere else is full." she smiled at them and the girl said 'yes'. She sat in between the ginger and the girl and looked across from her to the other boy. He looked strangely familiar. "A-are you Harry Potter?" she asked shyly, not wanting to make a big deal from it as he probably gets it a lot.
"Yes I am." he chuckled at Quinn. "Are you new here?" he asked her. Genuinely interested on why he's never seen her before, especially since she looked the same age as himself.
"Yeah. I transferred here from America. This is my first day." Quinn said excitedly. "I'm Quinn by the way." she smiled at Harry and held out her hand, Harry took it in his and shook it, she did the same with the other two.
"I'm Hermione Granger and this is Ron Weasley." the girl said as she pointed to the ginger who had a rat sleeping in his lap. "I'm warning you know, this train is awfully long." she said again as the other two agreed.
"yeah , my brothers have told me a lot about Hogwarts already." she laughed, being reminded of the hours spent on the couch going over names of teachers and how to get to different classes. "I was worried I wasn't going to make it on the train"
"The large crowd, was it?" Ron asked, tutting. "Always a pain, that is." he added, stuffing a chocolate frog into his mouth.
"Erm no actually. A boy didn't let me get onto the carriage. That's why the train was delayed." she told them, cringing at the thought of everyone looking at her then awkwardly trying to get to the door with everyone in her way. "He was extremely mean. I'm pretty sure he was a Slytherin, so I'm not surprised." she wasn't sure if all Slytherins were the same, like all Gryffindor's were the same, but they must have put that boy in Slytherin for a reason.
"Draco." the three of them said in unison. "Don't listen to him, he believes that only pure-bloods should be allowed to go to Hogwarts." Hermione rolled her eyes at the thought of him.
"I won't." Quinn said sternly as she yawned straight after. "Do you guys mind if I take a nap while we've got nothing to do? I didn't sleep much last night." which was true, although Quinn had a very vivid dream about the fireworks and the feast in the great hall, she kept getting too excited in her sleep then waking up. They all understood and told her it was fine, even Hermione told her she could rest her head on her shoulder. Which is what she did as she fell into a dreamless nap on her way to (hopefully) her new home for the next few months.
