I had know idea what to do. I was terrified and I couldn't breathe.

Hogwarts was a place that I once called home. It was safe. But now I was running away from death eaters in the same halls I use to run down to seek into house parties or chasing Fred and George down after class because they let one of the first years try one of their prank candies.

I turned quick down a hall and hid in behind a pillar. I saw some sparks fly past my head before I heard a scream of frustration. I lost them. I could breathe again, maybe only for a minute but that didn't matter to me right now. I couldn't really feel the effects of these past few days until now. My lungs burns from breathing the cold, damp air. I had dark bruises covering my body. I was so tired, I hadn't had food or anything to drink probably in days and I obviously couldn't sleep with everything going on. My god, my friends. Where they alive? Where they okay? I hadn't seen anyone in hours.

It was quiet, you wouldn't even know a war was going on where I was at. I had never been to this part of the school, it was unfamiliar.

Suddenly, a heard some shuffled steps headed my way. I shoved myself further into the dark in an attempt to hid from whatever or whoever was running down the hall. Suddenly, I saw a boy run by. I knew him, He was the kid who ran around with a camera in hand the first few years he attended Hogwarts. He, like the rest of us, covered in dirt and bruises from running around fighting for our school and our lives. I whispered his name and he wiped his head around and smiled at be before trying to come join me. We were safe, or so we thought.

"Found you little boy," an evil laugh echoed through the hall for a split second before a spell was cast. A light bunch of sparks hit the the boy in the chest, throwing him back into a wall. I gasped, covering my mouth as I watched him go limp on the floor.

"Little boy has a friend? Why don't you show yourself?" I saw a figure approach me, the shadow moving closer and closer. It was only a few week away before I took off running without looking back. I heard a growl of frustration come from behind me, pushing me to move forward. I wasn't really sure where I was going to, I was just trying to get away from dying.

Suddenly, I was in the middle of the battle. People I had seen smiling and laughing with each other just months ago were now fighting for their lives or dead on the ground. Believing I had lost who I was running from, I looked around me while I clutched my wand. I saw a little girl, a second year, being cornered by a death eater. Fear written on her face, I ran toward her and just as he picking up his wand.

Everything went black, I felt pain go through every ounce of my body. The shirk of the girl rang in my ears. Was I going to die? I couldn't. No, I need to fight. I tried to open my eyes, move even just a finger but nothing. I could feel the little girl sit down beside me, grab my hand. She softly cried, whispering to herself and wandering why I would save her of all people.

"Y/N! No! Is she dead? She can't be! I need her!" A familiar voice cried out. Neville. Memories flashed through my mind of us.

First year, he stumbled upon my table at the library, not seeing me. He had set down his pile of books on the table, they all tumbled off in an instant. I giggled, causing him to look up at me with a bright red face then he bent down to pick up the books. He was completely silent for a while before I asked if he needed help with anything. I ended up helping him with his potion's homework that day.

Fourth year, he passed a note to me in transfiguration. McGonagall saw it, asked me hand it to her. I was resistant but she end up taking it from my hands and reading it in front of the entire class. "Will you go to the three broom sticks with me next time we are in Hogsmeade? Mr. Longbottom, this is class time, please do not pass notes in class. Miss y/l/n, you can give him an answer on your own time," her voice rang through my head. I obviously said yes but the whole rest of class Neville was nervous while I kept a large smile on my face.

Now, just a few weeks ago, when we were preparing for the battle. It was late and Neville and I were talking about whatever was on our mind. We were laying on our little makeshift mattress, facing each other and just enough light was coming through the window that I could see the freckles on his face light up on his cheeks. He was playing with my fingers and I was just smiling.

"You know what we should do?" He asked after a few minutes of silence. I hummed in response, closing my tired eyes and scooting myself closer into his chest so we could keep each other warm. " We should get married. You know, finish school, get married. We could travel the world or stay here, I really wouldn't care as long as I'm with you."

I yawned, not quite processing what was going on. I did mutter out, "That sounds nice. I would like to be with you forever."

"So, I'll stay as long as you want me."

And now my sweet Neville is picking up my body off the ground, thinking I'm dead. I felt his tears on my skin as he carried me to the great hall, muttering how he was going to kill whoever was responsible. He laid me down gently on a soft cot, sat down beside me, grabbed my hand, and placed it to his lips. I could hear him sniffling and I could feel the wet of his tears forming around his lips. I couldn't do this, I pushed hard and used as much energy as I could to move something, anything.

I squeezed his hand. Not hard, just enough for him to notice. I heard his sniffling pause.

"Y/N? Do that again. Please, I need to know that wasn't just me." He whispered. I did it again, a bit harder this time.  He sniffled again, pressed a gentle kiss against my forehead, "I know you're going to be okay, okay? I need to help Harry now, please stay here and wait for me. I promise I'll be back." He pressed another quick kiss to my forehead before I felt him get up and leave.

I laid there for a few minutes before I gathered the energy to open my eyes. Another few minutes, I could sit up. Finally I was back to being able to walk again. I couldn't leave Neville alone.

I was able to make my way outside. Seeing Hogwarts in ruins was hard to look at. Walking through the halls of the few remaining people fighting for their lives, I scanned the room for Neville. He stood across the room, wand raised with a younger student by his side as a death eater approached them. I raised my wand at the dark figure and with all the energy I had, I shouted the disarming spell. The wand flew out of his hand and it gave Neville enough time to send a spell out, knocking the evil man back into the wall.

Neville looked over at me. The second we made eye contact, the world around us stopped. He ran towards me and engulfed me in a hug. I wrapped my legs around his waist and he put is face in my neck. We sat there for a minute before anything was said between us.

"Don't ever do that again," he whispered.

I knew what he meant, he didn't want me hurt, "I won't, I promise."

"I mean it, I don't want to loose you. I can't loose you."

Hi besties!
This might be complete trash but I got board in class lol. I haven't written anything in forever so I'm trying to write more to help my mental health :) Being a college student in the pandemic isn't the best for your mental health so do more of what makes you happy to take your mind off of the craziness of the world.
