Today was the day of the first quidditch game of the season. Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff. For me, this was one of my biggest competitions because, well, I was going against my boyfriend.Oliver Wood always made sure I had one job during games against Hufflepuff: distract Cedric. Being a chaser, my job was to mostly get the ball into one of our rings which I was pretty good at but I was also pretty good at distracting Cedric from his spot as Seeker. Before we were even together, he would stop just to stare at me throwing a ball or soaring across the field.
"I've been practicing you know," Cedric had said to me that week. We were walking to potions that Monday morning.
"What are you taking about? Practicing what?" I laughed.
He smiled brightly, "Not getting distracted by you. I need to practice for the quidditch game. Watch, I bet you wont catch me staring during class today."
I had rolled my eyes. Half way through class, I glanced over at him to see him practically drooling over me. I think he said something about my hair or my eyes looking to good not to be starred at.
Even this morning, I was eating breakfast with Harry, Ginny, and the rest of my team when he came over. He kissed me on top of my head and whispered in my ear, "See you later, loser," before running off to his table.
Now we were up in the sky on our brooms warming up and I could tell he was having a difficult time not looking at me. I would glance at him every once in a while and he would immediately look away like he hadn't been looking at me. I thought it was cute. He loved me so much that he never wanted to stop admiring me. However, I'm sure his teammates thought it was annoying.
I walked over to him and his team on the sidelines of the quidditch field. I slipped my hand down his arm and into his hand. He immediately stopped talking and his teammates rolled their eyes and flew off to go warm up some more. He turned to me and enveloped me in a hug. We stayed like that for a minute before I leaned back, stood on my toes, and pressed a kiss to his lips. I pulled back smiled up at him, his hands rested on my waist and mine were on his arms.
"Are you ready for the game?" I asked. I always gave him a pep talk before games started, I didn't care if it was against us and I had other plans against his.
"I think so. What about you?"
I smirked up at him, "Yeah, I'm pretty set on keeping you distracted," I laughed.
"I've been practicing! It's not my fault that you're so attractive," he smiled sheepishly down at me.
"Alright you love birds, I need y/l/n," Wood called over to us.
I shouted back an okay, stood on my toes to kiss Cedric on the cheek, and ruffed his hair up, "Good luck my love, you're going to need it."
"I don't think I'm the one that needs the luck," he laughed out as I walked back over to my team.
Wood always gave us this pep talk that Fred and George knew word for word. We would all try and hold back our laughs when they would dramatically act out the speech behind our captain. The funniest part was when they acted out Wood giving me my individual instructions to distract Cedric.
"Now, y/l/n," they dramatically pointed at me, "You're main priority is to keep Diggory away from the snitch, you got that?" They danced behind him and I bit my cheek to keep myself from laughing. I nodded in response and he turned his attention back to the rest of the team to finish up the pep talk.
We made our way out onto the quidditch pitch, our peers cheering in the stands. I saw Cedric on the other side of the pitch and gave him my best smile. I saw him almost melt at my look, but one of his teammates knocked him in the side.
We mounted our brooms and took our spots in the air. I kept my eye on Cedric as him and Harry rose above the rest of us to wait for the release of the snitch. Once we were in position, Madam Hooch released the quaffle and the bludger, starting the game. I zipped back and forth, following my teammates, before making my way up to Cedric.
Cedric immediately noticed, he rolled his eyes and smiled. He new what I was doing.
"Love, I think you might be cheating," he laughed out when I reached his level.
"I don't there's a rule keeping me from talking to my boyfriend."
"Yeah sure," he laughed a bit before his face went blank, "Where's Harry?"
A smile appeared on my face. Harry had been gone before I had even gotten up here.
We looked below up and saw Harry already on the tail of the snitch.
"For godric's sake, y/n," he zipped off towards Harry and the snitch.
I laughed at my victory of distracting him and set off to finish the game on the pitch. I just barely escaped a bluger when the game was called, Harry had caught the snitch declaring the game over. The crowd in the stands cheered us on, as we all landed on the ground. I high-fived the twins and went on to find Cedric. Passing by Harry, he thanked me for the head start.
I ran up behind Cedric, hugging him from behind while he finish talking to his team. They were upset at him but this had happened enough when they played us that they had given up trying to stop.
He twisted around in my arms and hugged me back. He pressed a kiss on top of my head before resting his chin on it.
"Maybe I shouldn't have wished you good luck," he said with disappointment.
I laughed, "Yeah? You gave all the luck you had to me, and I looked to good with it."
"You sure did," he smiled.
