Rustle could be heard as the casters were chattering.
"Oh chief is back already? Didn't he leave for Hana this morning upon hearing the demons had been spotted there?
"Yeah, what else can you expect from the lightning beast?"
"Still, that village is located at the very rear of human kingdom, was it wise to let our chief go there by himself without any backup?"
"Well, I did ask him to permit us to fight alongside him or at least act as his backup; even the higher-ups supported the idea but the chief refused and went on his own."
"Hahaha, that sounds like Horikita we know, always acting on his own, ignorant and quick-witted."
"Hey, he is the Chief Knight now, we shouldn't talk bad about him."
"My bad. But still, Chief really is one heck of a person isn't he."
"Yeah, no argue."
The two casters continued their talk as they watched the Chief Knight – Horikita Manabu being received by the troops.
"Welcome back Chief!"
"Thank you Tachibana, how are you doing."
"I am doing very well, thanks for your consideration."
The girl with purple hair buns hastily greeted the Chief Knight and took out a blank canvas. They walked along the hallway while talking.
"Chief, as grateful as the higher-ups is, they want a detailed report on the attack right away. It takes time but hope you're up for the task."
"There is nothing much to report. This attack consisted solely of low-rank demons. They harmed little to nothing and mostly acted as petty thieves. The abnormality is that their number is unusually high."
"Noted. Is there anything else I need to note?"
"However, there was not a single black order demon presented, much less a high-rank demon ordering them. It appeared as if..."
The man put his left hand on the glasses and paused as he had something on his mind.
"As if what- Chief?"
"It seemed likely it was an attempt of making us think they can still pose a threat to us, attacking towns with peons, going on rampage on small villages..., without leaving a lethal strike; they want to hide something, which could be an overwhelming disadvantage for them if it were to be found out."
"Noted Chief."
"Tachibana, send words to the villages at the rear kingdom. Tell them to fortify the villages and the forces have to be on high alert for any large scale attack."
"Very well, Chief. Anything else?"
"No, go and report. Details about the demons' trait and rank, I'll send it myself to them later. Now leave me, I need to rest. I'll make it to the castle in a few hours."
"I have prepared a room with tea beforehand, the room is located at the end of this corridor."
"As thoughtful as ever, thank you."
Tachibana hastily left. Horikita opened the door to the room which was prepared for him. Resting in a rather comfy chair, he put his classes down and enjoyed his very well brewed tea.
A light knock on the door brought the Chief Knight back.
"Chief, Vice commander Nagumo is asking for permission to enter."
"Very well, let him in."
After a while, a knight with light blond hair and light blue eyes entered the room. He had his chestplate taken off and gave the vibe of a carefree person.
