"Hey Mako, stop running! You'll get lost, I said stop running! Mako!"
The middle-aged woman hopelessly tried to tell the kid to stop.
"But mommy look there are so many people gathered there", the little girl paying no heed to her mother's words continued to run toward the place where people were standing, trying to get closer to see what people were crowding for. Mako slipped through the gaps and got to the front where she heard a strange man shouting.
"Save yourselves from the upcoming calamity!!"
People were muttering to themselves; some called him a fibber and others thought he might was telling the truth. Suddenly, a man made his way forward from the crowd and stood in front of the person in question.
"Please refrain from spouting such dangerous matters in such a light manner."
"And who might you be?" The man inquired. "I am the chief of this village"
"Oh chief you say, then it is your duty to protect the people of this village from the upcoming danger!"
"And what is this danger you are talking of?"
"Oh chief of this village, I am a humble seer who's trying to make the innocent people of this village realize the upcoming danger. The heavens above have told me that this village will be destroyed by a calamity and I am here to warn you all, so poor villager lives may be saved", the seer's claim made the villagers felt uneasy.
"And have the heavens told you which calamity will destroy this village?" inquired the chief sensing the unease among the villagers.
"Yes a calamity of fire, the embodiment of chaos and destruction..., a Dragon, shall destroy this village!"
The crowd started laughing like the seer had told a blague. Noisesof people talking to each other could be heard.
"What a fraud." "Talking about dragons, doesn't he know they are all extinct" and various remarks were being made about the seer.
"Enough!!" the chief said in a loud voice. "I don't know who you are and why you claimed to know about such dangers, but it is common knowledge that the dragons are history. Now, I won't allow anyone to disturb the peace of this village. You have to leave. Guards, lead this man out of our village and make sure he never enters again."
Hearing the chief's order, the guards at once seized the seer and made their way to the village gate. The seer protested against his expulsion from the village, but the guards took no notice. The crowd was slowly dispersing while talking about what had just occurred; some said the seer was a fraud while others were praising the chief for his decision.
"There you are Mako." The mother finally found the girl. "Sorry mommy but so many people were gathered i didn't want to miss it." The little girl tried to come up with excuses so her mother may not punish her. "Alright but next time if you run, I won't let you play for a week. Now, let us go eat something, shall we?"
..........................................
Meanwhile, the guards were escorting the seer out.
"You have to understand that you're making a grave mistake; you all are in danger!" the seer was still continuing his rants.
"Give it a break already!" the guard getting tired of his rambling ordered him. "Alright, leave now and don't ever come back." The guards pushed the seer outside the gate, turned their back and started to walk back in.
"I don't get why chief took him seriously; I mean, he was obviously a fraud." one of the guard exclaimed.
"Yeah, I thought so too, but there are rumors going around; those villages in rear kingdom are being burned down and stuff like that. The chief just didn't want the villagers to get frightened."
