Chapter 7

Calum

Michael and I finished lunch and walked around the field hoping to join in with a football game. When there were none to join in with, Michael started droning on about this game he bought yesterday, and then came onto the subject of Aleisha. “Don’t you think she’s hot, Calum?”

I shrugged. “I don’t think my idea of ‘hot’ is the same are yours, but she is pretty. Are you really planning on going out with her?”

He smiled cheesily. “If I can. She probably senses that I like her. Who knows, she might even confess her love to me before I do! Man if that happened…”

“Erm Michael, that’s Aleisha isn’t it?” I pointed out, looking into the new music practice room. Was that… Lucas?! “And Luke??” I added quietly.

Michael stopped dead in his tracks and ran like the wind over to the window to get a closer look. I rushed behind him and saw that Luke and Aleisha were eating lunch and talking. Aleisha looked really happy, cheeks flushed and all, and Luke looked slightly tense but mainly relaxed. Slowly, I turned my head towards Michael, who looked like he was ready to murder Luke with his own hands.

 “Michael, don’t do anything. Please.”

He didn’t listen to me, and continued staring at them. Worriedly, I stared at them too, until Luke finally saw us. Before he could do anything, Jake entered the music room with his usual swag on. Sunglasses, hoodie, you name it. Although we couldn’t hear what they were talking about, I saw Jake clear his throat and stand tall. I pressed my ear against the glass and only just managed to hear what they were talking about.

“Hey Aleisha. You play guitar?” he asked, smirking like he was on top of the world. Luke averted his eyes and Aleisha replied with a simple ‘yes’. “That’s cool. Hemmings, what are you doing in here? Don’t tell me… you were eating lunch together?” Aleisha looked really flustered, fidgeting and clearing her throat.

“Yeah we were eating lunch…” Aleisha replied nervously. Luke took a deep breath and exhaled through parting lips.

“Oh okay. So this Saturday, you wanna hang out?”

There was a momentary silence as Aleisha thought of an answer. “Sorry Jake, I have a family meeting on Saturday. And Sunday. And erm… I don’t usually like to go out on the weekends.”

That was a lie, I’d seen her shopping with her friends on numerous occasions.

“Okay. How about after school?”

“My, erm, parents don’t let me go out after school.”

Again, that was a lie because I often saw her in the local off license buying sweets and going to friend’s houses.

Jake nodded, as if he knew everything. “I see what you’re doing here. You’ve already made plans with Hemmings, haven’t you? Well you know what Aleisha? If you want to make me jealous, this isn’t the way to do it.” He approached her slowly, making her uncomfortable. When they were inches apart, his hand reached for her collar, in a way that looked like he was going to undress her. “Cause you’re just like all the others. I always get girls. But I never get girls that I want. You, bitch, can just die in a hole. First though, I’m gonna show you what you’re really worth. Nothing more than this piece of cloth you’re wearing-“

“Shut up Jake.” Luke leapt up and pushed Jake away. It was sheepish but enough to surprise him. Aleisha yelped and sat still, undoubtedly afraid. Michael jolted next to me, tense. A small crowd had gathered at the windows and Jake noticed this.
