So, like I said this is my first story! Hope it's okay :)

And yeah, I guess the picture at the side gives you an idea of what Luke looks like in the beginning :)

Chapter 1

Luke

“Come on Hemmings, can’t you even kick a ball?”

Angrily, I kicked the ball all the way to the other side of the field. Mr Braine didn’t seem impressed at all, but I didn’t care; sport wasn’t my forte. Next to a certain Calum Hood stood Jack with his mates. They all seemed disappointed that I ruined the match, but cheered me on anyway. There was no point; the game was over, I had killed it and it was time to move on.

In the changing room, I received deathly glares from my teammates. But I ignored them and got changed into my school uniform. I didn’t need friends, not really. I had my brother, and that was all I needed. He would look after me, he would protect me from bullies like Calum and his possy. God, what did they have against me? Just because I looked kinda weak and was good at math. I didn’t know being weak would make you such easy prey.

“Hemmings, great kick there,” Calum mocked, entering the changing room. I didn’t smile as I brushed past him, but I couldn’t get away from him either. He was following me, with two of his friends beside him. One of them was Michael, and he really despised me for some odd reason. The other was Nicholas, a really bulky guy who was the captain of the judo team. I didn’t understand how such a thin guy could make friends with such scary people. “Ignoring me, are you?”

“Leave me alone Calum,” I said in defence. He laughed.

“But the thing is Hemmings, I can’t leave you alone.”

Panic.

“You see… I think I like you…”

I was so stupid that I took him seriously. I turned around and hushed him, because any mention of being gay in the corridor seemed to bring gossip which would hang in the air for days, sometimes weeks. Why was it such an interesting thing to talk about? It was no one’s business whether you were gay or not, but I tended to follow the rules and do what was acceptable.

Calum was practically crying with laughter, as was his squad. “He thinks I’m fuggin serious! What a little shit you are, Hemmings…”

Oh how I wanted to slap that face of his. But it was so beautiful at the same time… what was I going to do… His lips were so pretty and kissable, and his eyes! And the moles that ornamented his cheek and the hair that stayed perfectly halfway in the air, and that smile of his…

Even though Calum insisted that he was kidding with me, my feelings weren't a joke. I had some belief left inside me that Calum would maybe actually like me. I wasn’t at the desperate stage yet but I knew it would come someday.

My luck had just about vanished when I was paired up with him in science. I would have to sit with him for the rest of the semester because he and Michael kept talking in class. Calum winked at me as he sat down with his books.

“Hope you don’t bother me too much, Hemmings.”

“Until when are you going to call me that?” I objected, trying but failing to sound intimidating.

“Until I want to, Hemmings. Now is this going to work or is it not going to work? I actually want to do well in science, so you can either cooperate and earn my respect, or not cooperate and get punished by me. I might seem like a douche but science is something I want to excel in. So watch your back, Hemmings.”
