Chapter 9
Calum
I was kicked out of the hospital at ten pm when some nurse came in after hearing Luke’s erotic moans. Damn that Lucas, why’d he have to go and make weird noises? Not only were they loud but they were seriously sexy.
I got out my phone and rang Mali, who unfortunately didn’t pick up. She was probably in the shower or something – and then I realised, it was Friday. Mali’s gig was tonight! Damn, I wasn’t gonna make it in time… why hadn’t she told me? Was that why she was applying make-up and texting her guitarist, Joe? Why the fuck hadn’t I seen the signs?!
But I didn’t want to blame Luke. He was in a horrible state when I let him go in the ambulance. I needed to see him. Mali was gonna have plenty of gigs to come. She wouldn’t mind… surely…?
I sighed and waited for the bus back to Mount Druitt. A drunk man and a sober man were waiting next to me, the drunk man standing in-between the other guy’s legs and holding hands. They were moaning, too, and I smiled at myself, thinking of Luke. A woman wearing clicking heels walked past, but stopped when she saw the guys.
“Dirty boys,” she remarked, loud enough for them to hear. Whoa, who was she to say that?
The drunk guy heard and turned around. “Whadidyousay?” he roared. The woman backed away slightly, giving him a look of disgust. “Bitch what did you say?”
“Goodness me.”
She wandered off in the direction of her original destination, and I let out a sigh. That was tense. I’d hate for that to happen with me and Lucas – maybe we just shouldn’t show affection in public? If that was the case, what the fuck were we supposed to do, hold in our feelings until we arrived at a private place? What was wrong with society, they were all fucking messed up.
After what seemed like years, the bus arrived, with a grumpy looking bus driver in the front and some random people dotted around the bus. I took out my return ticket and showed it to the bus driver. “It’s pretty late, do you have a guardian with you?” he asked. Mind your own business, I thought.
“No… sorry.”
Even though it was the lamest reply ever, he shrugged and handed me back a ripped ticket. I sat down near the back and watched the two guys sit down together. Some people around them murmured to each other. Honestly. Fucked up people, who gave them the permission to judge two guys?
It was eleven when I finally arrived at home. I could hear Mali’s voice from the pub and quickly ran over, the sound of general chatter getting louder as I approached the building. I entered, but it was so crowded that I found it difficult to get to the front. A drunk girl with a massive rack accidentally spilt some alcohol on me and giggled.
“Sorry hunny, didn’t mean to get you wet in this way!”
I wanted to burst out laughing but held it in. This wasn’t the place. This wasn’t the place. I had to get to Mali, I had to get through the crowd… but then the drunk girl tugged my shirt, pulling me backwards. Oh god.
“You free tonight?”
“No. Sorry. I gotta go.”
“Aww don’t be that way! Cummon, we could have fun… no?”
I stared at her for a second. She was extremely hot. She had straight blonde hair with pink highlights, a bright pink neon bodycon on with matching heels, a huge dangling necklace and an armful of bracelets on each arm. She was hot, but I only had eyes for one person.
“Sorry, I really think-“
“Babes, where have you been?” a guy asked, coming towards us. Well, he was sober. “Come on, let’s go home. Sorry little dude. She drank just a little bit too much.”
