Hey cake lovers! I'm 200 words short this chapter, and it's really not that great... but there is a little bit of exciting smut at the end. Just a little. So bear with me!

-> I guess you can imagine Calum piggy-backing Luke, but if you can't then there's the picture of them doing just that, lol :)

Chapter 8

Calum

“Sorry, I think I’m gonna stay at the library today.”

As I walked to the bus stop with a chattering Michael, I thought about Luke’s words. He never went to the library, he wasn’t that kind of person. He was the kind of person who would do his studying at home, and use his dad’s massive collection of books. I didn’t want to bother him though, so painstakingly listened to Michael go on about this new CD he had bought.

“Like the first track is amazing, pulls you in and all, and the next song! Omg, that is the best one on the album, I can’t stop singing it… and then number five, it has loads and loads of guitar and bass, I kinda wanna play stuff like that…”

We finally reached the bus stop, where the familiar white bus was waiting. The bus driver, Mark, was reading a newspaper with his feet on the dashboard, waiting for all the kids to pile on. Michael stepped on, showing Mark his pass even though they met on a daily basis, but I hesitated. For some reason, I didn’t think that Luke was in the library. Earlier, I had seen Jake talk to him in the classroom but I had paid no attention to that little event. Instead, I had been copying up homework from Alex, who was watching them. Wait, Alex was watching them?

“Aren’t you getting on?” Michael asked through the hair that had covered his face. I swallowed. Alex was just in front of the bus, so I ran over.

“Alex, weren’t you watching Luke and Jake’s conversation earlier?” He nodded carefully. “Did you hear them?”

He shrugged. “Nah mate, they were too quiet for me to hear. I just watched cause Jake never comes into our classroom, but yeah. Heard nothing.”

“Thanks,” I said dismissively and ran back to the school gates. I heard Michael in the distance hollering ‘where are you going Calum??’ but I ignored him and pressed on. Clouds overcast the skies, making it even harder to see. Ground lights weren’t on.

First I went to the classroom, in case he was there. But too much time had passed, I figured he had already gone to the library; so I hurried down there, jumping the last few steps of the staircases. I pushed past the remaining people and barged through the double doors leading to the library. There was only the sound of rustling paper and pens rattling in pencil cases, and I scanned the room for any sign of a dirty blonde guy wearing a shirt and sweater. No sign. Where the fuck was this guy, if he wasn’t in the library?

Fifteen minutes had passed since the last bell went. Michael was probably sitting on the bus feeling neglected, Alex was probably laughing with his mates whilst playing a game of cards on the way home, Mali was probably singing to some random R&B in her bedroom… but I had no idea what Luke was probably doing. It was literally pitch black outside, but I circled the grounds once.

Thinking he could be in the music rooms, I also checked in there. Only person in there was Aleisha, and she was singing some pretty deep shit. Her voice was nice though, so I sat with my back against the door listening for a few minutes whilst I caught my breath and brainstormed places he could be.

After being calmed down slightly by a soothing voice, I went outside and was forced to put on my coat. I went around the blocks once more, and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Jake and his two friends behind him. He was laughing, cigarette in his mouth and an empty beer bottle just behind. I stayed hidden as they left my sight and had a sudden lightbulb moment.
