So after driving for 6 hours, and then pulling off at a rest stop, I finally reached Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

I found a hotel, and I've been staying there until I can find a house in Cottonwoods.

First things first, I need to find a phone.

I grab my key card for my room and leave my room. I pad lightly down the hall, careful not to draw attention to myself.

I go up around the corner, and down the stairs to the desk.

I walk up to the lady and she looks up at me, "Yes dear?" She asks.

"Hi, I was just wondering if there was a cell phone store around here? I dropped mine in the toilet." I say, adding a frown, she smiles at me.

"In fact, there is, on Mason Lane, its called The Source, excellent service, but it's in Elmdale." She says, I nod a thank you and walk back up to my room.

I grab the rest of my money and count it, I don't have much left, but it will do.

I grab the BMW keys and head back out.

I've already gone and grabbed a few outfits and a duffel bag to put them in to make it look like I was vacationing and not running, the dirty clothes are sitting on the table in a bag back in my hotel room, I make a mental note to take them to the laundry room on the basement floor of the hotel.

I walk out into the parking lot, and the crisp air bites at my skin. I shiver and pick up my pace to get the car.

I hop in and turn on the heat as fast as I can, it instantly floods the car and I rub my hands together. It's not really cold, but it's chilly.

I put my seat belt on, and head towards The Source

When I get to the phone store, I don't know what I was expecting but this certainly isn't it. The white building looks nothing like I pictured it. I shake it off and climb out of the car, grabbing my money.

I walk into the store, and I'm engulfed in warm air. I smile. It's nice.

The lady at the counter looks up at me.

"How can I help you, young lady?" She asks.

"I need a new phone, I dropped mine in water," I say as I approach the counter.

She laughs and shakes her head, "I'll get a waterproof one for you, any preferences?"

I shake my head, she nods in response and walks to the back of the store. I stand at the counter running my hands along the counter.

She comes back out holding a phone with a black backside. She places it on the counter and tells me it's a Samsung Galaxy s20 FE. I nod, not knowing if that's good or bad. "It's waterproof too." She says with a smile.

She rings me up and I pay for it and a case.

I walk back out to the BMW and I take the phone out of the box. I turn it on and set it up, I add my old email to it, and my pictures come flooding through. I smile at some of them, and then put the phone back in the cup holder, and back the way I came to the hotel.

Another reason I wanted to be in a small town.

I won't get lost.

I park in my spot at the hotel.

Well, it's not my spot per se but I like this spot, so for the time being it's mine.

When I get back up to my room, I take out my phone and search for places hiring. I don't know how far I'll get at 17, but I have to do something, and I have a lot of experience.

First, I check local restaurants, and there aren't many so it doesn't take much time.

None are hiring.

I google jobs near here because I'm not calling every building in this town.

I click on a link and scroll through the jobs. My eyes stop on one, and I click on it to read the information.

Housekeeping. I love cleaning it helps me take my mind off of things, so I click the little "Apply now" button.

$20 an hour is perfect.

After I apply, I decide to call them.

"Hello, this is the Grand Central Hotel, how can I help you?" A smooth voice says on the other end.

"Hi, my name is Brooklyne, I'm 17, and I just applied for the housekeeping job."

"Ahh, yes, I am looking at it now." She informs me, and I hear her fingers tapping on keys.

"I approved it, it looks great, when can you start?"

"Now?" I say but it came out as a question. "Perfect! See you soon Brooklyne." I sigh and hang up. I need to change.

I go and grab my duffel bag and grab a pair of more comfortable clothes, I don't exactly know what this job holds but I want to be comfy. I grab my phone and pull my hair up into a ponytail.

I grab my key card and leave the hotel room that has temporarily become my home. I jog down the stairs, in a hurry. The lady at the desk smiles at me as I go by, and I smile back in return.

People around here must think I'm crazy.

I go get in the car and head towards the address I have put in my google maps.

I finally get to the building after what seems like forever, but maybe that's because I was anxious to get here. I look at the building for a moment before getting out.

I take in a deep breath, and then get out.

I lock the BMW and go inside the building, warm air instantly wrapping around me. I walk down the long hall, and go left, a sign indicating that the front desk is this way. I continue walking until I reach the large round desk.

I rest my arm on the desk and wait patiently. The lady, Loveta, looks up at me. "Hello, Brooklyne?" She asks, I nod my head. "Right this way." She says standing up.

"Today is going to be fairly easy, all you need to do is clean these rooms, and the hallway that they are all in, now I am in charge of making the schedules, so stay on my good side and I'll try to make sure that all of your rooms stay on the same floor."

She hands me a sheet of paper, with 4 rooms highlighted.

"It should take you about an hour per room if you are doing it right, if it takes more than an hour, that is completely fine, just don't make it longer than two hours per room." She starts leading me down a hall, and all I say is okay.

After she gets done explaining everything to me, I start working in room 111. I have to do 111, 112, 113, and 116. People are already in 114 and 115.

She informed me that I could clean it anyway I'd like but it had to be sparkling. I go to the linen closet at the end of the hall and unlock it. My uniform is sitting there, and a cart that is neatly organized. The shift previous to mine is supposed to stock the carts, and it seems they do a pretty nice job. It's all organized by room and it looks like an easy system to follow.

I grab my uniform and set it on top of the cart, I go into the nearest bathroom and quickly change, making sure I leave nothing behind, I go back out and set my clothes in the linen closet and lock it.

Putting my phone in the pocket on my apron, I grab the handles on the cart and start towards my first room.
