Annabeth Chase
It's been exactly a week since I joined the Half-Blood project. A week of carefully keeping that mask on so that no-one would see through it. Funny thing is, I see the same mask on Percy, he keeps it a lot loser though, talks more, cracks joke. I suppose because he leads a team, a group of kids who just want to live, find out where their powers come from and why, why the monsters hunt us.
And it's been quiet. Monster attacks have been getting less and less frequent. Percy still doubles patrol but nearly every-time, the group comes back empty, no powdery dust on them.
I think I have a theory.
But I'm not sure of anything yet.
The first thing I do with this theory is to go to Percy, not because he is the leader, but he is one of the few that trust me in this blasted warehouse.
"Greek Myths." I slam down the papers on the pingpong table room we recently converted into a meeting room for all of us older adults, the ones who have finished high school.
"What?" Percy locks the door and inspects the papers I printed from the laptop.
"Think about it, our parents, our powers, the monsters, Kronos, it all makes sense. We thought Kronos was half-blood but I don't think he is human at all."
"Woah, slow down. Start from the beginning." Percy took a seat and ran a hand through his black hair and his sea-green eyes clouded over with curiosity.
I calm myself down, trying not to feel agitated. "You know Greek Myths right? Zeus, Typhon, Hera?" The sky rumbles unexpectedly. Percy nods.
"I don't think those are myths, I think they are true stories. I figured it out at the beach when you were doing your tidal wave. If I'm correct, our powers originate from the gods of Olympus."
I don't expect Percy to burst out laughing. "Okay, okay. I get it, you want to waste my time with nonsense because you hate me, fine." He joked and stood up, leaving for the door. I stepped in front of it. He was only a few inches taller than me but I glared right into the cocky sea-green eyes.
"Listen, buddy, I think this may help us in the fight, so sit."
Percy sat. And I lectured.
"My dad told me that my mom left us the minute after I was born. You've never met your dad, have you?" It felt odd to just talk to Percy but I breezed past it. He nodded.
"I think, and I can prove it, our parents are gods. Meaning in short term, we are demigods."
Percy tapped his chin thoughtfully. "But how do we know the gods even exist? Wouldn't we know by now?"
I shook my head and threw my braid off my shoulder. "The Mist, controlled by the Titan of Magic and Crossroads is in control over the veil that conceals myth from mortals. If the gods want to be known, I think we would have already found out."
"But I looked it up, I searched every database with Leo, hacked half the world. The first appearance of magic was less than twenty years ago. And the only recorded half-blooded human in the system is me and Luke." Percy explained.
The mention of Luke stabs my heart, I ignore the pain heaving in my chest. "I think the gods went dark, something happened and they had to retreat, they didn't have kids or involve themselves in the world and with that, monsters retreated to this hell called Tartarus because there were no demigods to kill."
"And Kronos? Isn't he a Titan in human myth?"
I nodded. "We thought he was an older half-blood but in reality, he's a three-thousand-year-old cannibal Titan. He swallowed his first five kids and the sixth freed them, Zeus."
