CHAPTER 1

The sound of the clocks alarm echoed around the room, I opened my eyes slowly. Swinging my arm out knocking the clock to the floor, where it continued to beep. Wiping the remaining sleep from my eyes, I sat up, placed my feet on the floor, digging my toes into the piles of the carpet. More awake now, I bent down, switched off the alarm and set it down on the cabinet by the bed. The time flashed at me. Why was I awake so early, of course I was the one who had set the alarm for five thirty, but still I was so tired, I hated it.

"Why am I up so early," I muttered to myself, as I stood and padded my way to the bathroom where I would start my morning routine. I washed up, dressed myself and spent a few minutes adding my make-up, being up so early the eye-liner made my bags look less noticeable. At least that is what I told myself. Applying a layer of lip-gloss to my lips, I smacked them together, before heading down the stairs.

I opened the nearest cupboard and set about making breakfast for my mother and myself. She entered the kitchen at six. Joining me at the table, she pulled out a chair and smiled at me.

"Good morning, baby."

"Morning, Ma, you sleep okay?" I asked.

"I guess," she winced.

I could tell she was still tired, I knew how she felt; I ate the remainder of my breakfast, adding the dish to the pile by the sink, before placing a kiss on my mother's cheek.

"Alright, well, I am gonna head to school, see you later."

She nodded, spooning the cereal into her mouth. "Love you," she mumbled.

"Love you too, Mom," I said as I grabbed my bags, which lay on the floor in the hall. Slinging them over my shoulder, I headed towards the front door.

The bus pulled up outside the school, the building looked as it did everyday, ugly maroon and lavender painted walls with white patches, covering graffiti . I stepped down from the bus, as the sound of a car revving its engine drove past. Of course I knew the sound of that car, knew who the driver was. I turned to look in the direction the car was coming from, and I was right. The shiny emerald green seventy-four impala with it's decked out chrome wheels and hydraulics. He wore sunglasses and looked as gorgeous as he did every time I saw him. My heart raced, why he made me feel the way he did. Was it the way his brown hair fell, or the twinkle of his brown eyes? Or was it that six pack he hid beneath his clothes.

I had crushed on him forever, and once we attended the same church, until we both stopped going. Now I only saw him in school. He had once been a shy guy, at least that was how he was with me, with the others around him, he acted hard, even angry. His temper was attracting the wrong kind of attention, and he was often in detention. I walked slowly towards where he now had parked the car. The gang of guys who once sat in the car now stood around it, leaning on the bonnet, all perched watching the passing students.

I could not help, but allow my eyes to fall upon him. Our eyes met, and I felt my cheeks heat up. Damn it I was blushing. I turned my eyes away and my head down.

"What's up beautiful?" I heard him say.

Was he talking to me, we were friends but beautiful, he had never said that before. In case he was talking to someone else, I looked at him from the corner of my eye.

"Yes I am talking to you," he repeated, moving towards me.

Move damn feet, I willed myself to move forward, but I was paralyzed. Finally my feet moved, but he stood before me, putting his hand on the wall to stop me from moving forward. The look in his eye told me to fear him, my heart told me to run, my head said stay.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"To class," I stuttered. I was usually nervous around him, but this was worse, my body felt tense. When I heard someone calling my name.

"Ella," Rachel continued to call out. I recognised her voice. She reached me, pulling me into a hug. I whispered my thanks in her ear as she out stared Damian. "Hey, Bitch," she said, releasing me.

Damian removed his arm and glared at Rachel back.

"Anyway, what do you guys want with Ella?" she asked, turning to face him, her hands on her hips.

Damian titled his head, considering the question, before answering. I watched his eyes twinkle before he replied.

"Actually I was coming to ask if you guys would like to come to a party on Friday night?"

"No than-" I began to say, as Rachel cut me off.

"We'd love to come, now kindly take your ghetto ass out of here."

Before I could protest, Damian and his gang climbed back into his car and drove off. I glared at Rachel, as we walked towards the school's main doors and entered. Heading to meet our other friends, Sam, known only to her parents as Samantha, we all called her Sam, Meagan, Elena and CC, whose real name was Cecelia, but she preferred the short version.

"Thanks a lot," I groaned as I looped my arm through hers.

"Oh shut up, anyway you'll thank me later," Rachel said, chuckling to herself.

I hoped she was right. "Whatever," I muttered, shrugging.

"What's going on?" Elena asked.

Rachel informed them of the party, and pulled out her phone, explaining she was texting her cousin Elisabeth and Luisa, asking if they wanted to tag along too.

The remainder of the day passed uneventful, and all I could think about was Damian, and the invite. Which caused my stomach to flip, and the butterflies returned. At first I was adamant I was not going, but secretly I could not wait to go.
