{If you see something like *mon cher in this chapter that means that the word or phrase is in French and I'll have the definition to the word at the end of the chapter.}

*Eight Years Previous, Age: 11*

I heard the light clanking of my blinds being yanked open and slowly opened my eyes just to groan at the bright sun shining in my face.

"Good morning, Lilliana. It's quite a wonderful day isn't it?" My father(not by blood) said smoothly with his strongly French accented voice.

"Good morning, father." I said softly as a slowly sat up and yawned my hair long light brown hair in a bit of a mess.

"Today I am having a dinner party *mon cher. But if you like tomorrow if you behave today I could take you to the garden you seem to be so fond of?" He said kindly with a smile sitting on my bed lightly kissing my forehead.

"*Bein merci, papa." I said excitedly and hugged him tightly. He was nearly twice my size since he was somewhere in his forties and I was only eleven years old.

"You're welcome. Now get dressed and meet my in the main room. Your aunt has made you another dress, I bet it would make her happy to see you in it." He said with a kind smile before getting up and walking out of my rather large room closing the door behind him.

I soon got up and dressed myself in the dress my aunt had made me. I was a rather frilly pink and yellow dress with bows and ribbon. Once I finished dressing I fixed my hair up into a ponytail with a pink ribbon before I walked down to the ballroom in the estate which was now slowly filling with many adult men and woman. I squeezed my way through them trying to find my father in the crowd.

As I pushed my way through a pair I accidentally bumped into someone who was about my height hearing him grunt a bit when we collided.

"*Je suis désolé!" I said softly looking over at the boy who was now on the floor and I offered a hand to help him up. He took my hand and I helped him stand seeing that he was a little taller than me.

"It's alright. It was partially my fault just be more careful will you?" He said politely with a smile and I returned the smile nodding a bit.

"Um, *mon nom est Lilliana, you are?" I asked with a light curtsy and he looked a little nervous his face a little red before he cleared his throat and smiled.

"My names Arno Kenway, it's nice meeting you Miss Lilliana" He said with a bow and offered me his arm. "Come on let's go try something fun."

I lightly took his arm and he began to lead me through the crowd going toward the kitchen walking rather quickly so I almost had to jog a bit to keep up with him. "What are we doing here?"

He crouched and made me crouch as well. "I'll distract the cook and you steal us some apples." He whispered about to go forward before I grabbed his arm.

"What are you talking about? We could just ask instead of getting in trouble." I whispered to him and he chuckled.

"Don't worry *jolie fleur. It's good to have a little fun from time to time." He whispered with a grin before he strolled into the kitchen getting the cooks attention. I slowly snuck in as well ducking behind a few crates when the cook looked around after he was distracted I swiftly stayed crouched going over to the table and grabbed the apples.

Arno must have noticed since he ran past the now anger cook over to me. "Where do we go?" I heard him say to himself before I lightly tapped him.

"Follow me" I said and swiftly began to run over to a window hopping out of it onto the ground and heard a thud behind me guessing that Arno was following me rather well. I quickly ran out to the garden area with Arno where we hid behind two large bushes.

We sat down behind them a bit out of breath lightly laughing about how we actually escaped the ordeal. I handed him one of the apples and he grinned. "See now wasn't that fun?" He teased making me playfully push him making him laugh.

We both enjoyed our apples before I decided we could have a little more fun and stood up. Arno looked up at me a little confused and he was about to say something before I began to run.

"Wait! Lilliana where are you going?" He called from behind me chasing me. As I quickly took a turn around a corner since I knew the house like the back of my hand.

"Catch me if you can!" I called back to him and heard him laugh a bit as we ran around the house accidentally bumping into a few adults from time to time until i heard my dad calling me.

"Lilliana Marie De Franscis!" I heard him call making me stop and groan lightly as I sluggishly walked over to him. He had his arms crossed and I saw the cook walking away with a smirk on his face. 'I am going to get him back for this.' I thought before my fathers scolding snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Lilliana you know better than to run inside and take things that aren't yours. Please don't do that again or else I'll have to send you to your room, alright?" He said raising an eyebrow and I sighed and was about to say alright before I heard a woman scream and some men calling for help. I quickly ran in the direction hearing my father close at my heals.

When we arrived at the scene I noticed Arno standing over something before my father put his hands over my eyes and he asked many of the people around us what had happened.

That was the moment I realized that someone was dead. I squirmed free and quickly went over to Arno who was above the corpse. I felt sick seeing the body of the dead man like that. Arno had a few tears in his eyes as he looked over at me saddened.

I softly hugged him making sure to block his view of the dead body. He wrapped his strong arms around my slender body and cried into my chest. "Why papa? Why did you have to die?" I heard him choke out between sobs as some of the men took away the body and told some of the maids to clean up the mess.

My father walked up and kneeled beside us gently putting a hand on my shoulder and his. "Lilliana, let me talk to your friend for a bit alright." I hesitated but soon let go and walked off to outside of the house feeling tears well up in my eyes. That was the first time I had ever seen someone dead, it was horrifying.

I don't know what happened when I left my father and Arno but ever since that day Arno had lived at the house working along with some of the servants. He was usually busy but when he wasn't he would always spend time with me.

It's been nine years since his father died and Arno and I have grown closer and closer. Though I feel that something about Arno is changing for the better and for the worse.
