"N-no...you can't be here...th-they said you-" I managed to stutter out before he put his finger over my lips to make me stop talking. He let out a soft dark chuckle that made my skin crawl.
"Shush now, Princesse. No need to be frightened." He said with a smirk and I quickly but shakily took a step away from him. I didn't know what this was if it was a trap or not but it was not my father. "Judging by that expression you were expecting someone other than me, hmmmm? Your dear old dad possibly~" He cooed making me glare daggers at him.
"Trash like you shouldn't be aloud to speak of him, cabot(mutt)." I hissed cruelly glaring intensely at him taking a few more steps back which merely resulted in him laughing for a moment before he gained a twisted cruel expression making my blood freeze. I had met this man before and had cared never to meet him again.
~Flashback: Age 16~
I had decided to go for a walk along the streets of Paris since Arno was off delivering another letter for my father. We had meant to spend the day together but my father must have overheard and disapproved sending him away to keep him busy and distanced from me.
I sighed lightly looking around at the people and things that were around me. Three children weaving through the crowd laugh and playing swords with sticks, the baker trying to bargain a higher price with a man, a few courtesans distracting some guards, and of course the many men and women going about their daily lives walking down the street.
As I continued to walk along I noticed a familiar yet very unwanted face nearby. I quickly tried to hide somewhere and opted to walking toward the side of the street where buildings were so he would have to look through the many people in the street to actually find me.
After a few minutes or so I huffed in relief thinking I had lost him until the next thing I knew he had me pinned against the wall. Of course not touching me but just having his hands on either side of me preventing my escape at the time.
"O-oh hello Dimitri. What a surprise seeing you here." I said softly trying to be polite enough so he would get distracted and move so I could continue my walk.
"Hello to you as well princesse. Have you changed your mind about my offer? Why go for a dog like Arno when you can have someone like me." He said smirking cockily bringing his face close to mine making me tense and rather harshly slap him as a reflex.
"For the last time, no. Also quite calling Arno a dog because the only mutt I see here is you. But of course that would be insulting canines." I hissed at him while he was still in a fit of shock from the slap with a now rather pleasing red mark appearing on his cheek.
"I see. I guess you want to do this the hard way!" He said raising his voice a bit before roughly grabbing my hands making me yelp in pain a bit as he tried to pull me closer to him. I began to struggle against him using all my might which got my left hand free to try and push him away as I kicked him roughly in the shin making him growl lightly.
When his grip on my hands tightened I whimpered lightly calling for help which got the attention of some guards who quickly glanced over only to see Dimitri and go back to their flirting with courtesans. Soon though I saw a fist get slammed into Dimitri's face which made him grunt and fall to the ground.
My rescuer soon pushed me gently behind him when I realized it was Arno who had saved me. He spat a few curses at the now shocked Dimitri before he sprung back up and began a fist fight against Arno. In the end after quite a few fists and kicks flew two bystanders pulled them apart while one checked if I was alright.
After having to talk our way out of the situation Arno and I began to head back to the house. I noticed his face was now bruised and cut from the fight making me frown a bit.
Once we arrived at home, thankfully my father was at a meeting so not to see Arno's sorry state, I led Arno out to the garden. He sat on the bench grumbling over the fact that he should have killed Dimitri.
I left and soon returned with a few bandages and alcohol to clean the wounds. I had a worried expression with a frown tugging at my lips as I looked at the now dark bruises and bleeding cuts.
"I'm alright mon amour(my love). I'm just glad you're alright." He paused but soon continued, "Je aurais tué ce pervers(I should have killed that pervert) for trying to hurt you." Arno said angrily before he noticed my expression and looked down at his lap still angry but didn't want to upset me more as I cleaned his cuts and bandaged him up.
"Imbécile...you always get yourself hurt. It makes me sad knowing it was my fault..." I said softly once I finished looking down at my lap. He then gently took my hands in his and kissed my forehead.
"Mon amour, I would do anything for you. Even if it would cost me my life I would do anything to keep you safe." He said before kissing me softly. I blushed and gently kisses him as well.
"Je te aime (I love you)." I said softly and he said the same as well.
~Flashback End~
"Well now where's little prince Arno to save the day? Of course I doubt you would need saving now that you're an assassin." Dimitri spoke with disgust and he stared me up and down with his smirk returning. "Still as beautiful as always."
I spat at him and he frowned staring intently at me. "Beautiful but venomous." He mumbled then continued, "I am merely the messenger for a much bigger man. Your dear old dad wanted you to know that he was busy this time but the next he would send for you again so you can reunite." He said tossing a ring at me which I clumsily caught. Looking at it I noticed my family's crest on it, it was my fathers!
I remembered him always wearing it when I was young since when I would hold his hand or he would pat my head I would feel the cold metal and see the engraving. "Also I have a message from your dad to your mangy mutt, 'Stay away from my daughter écume assassin
(Assassin scum).' Goodbye princesse. Have fun dealing with the guards." Dimitri smirked before bolting out of the door yelling assassin at the top of his lungs.I cursed and quickly ran out as well trying to act scared as multiple guards ran into the church to look for the assassin which inevitably was me but they wouldn't know that. I ran up to the carriage quickly hopping into the drivers seat and whipping the reigns making the horses whiney and head back down the road.
Why would my father be working with Dimitri? He's always hated the Altouras so why now? Now I had to find my father, I need answers now.
