We were still living in the security room a few days later. Evan worked on fitting the armor to us in turns, while the rest of us took turns resting or preparing bags with food and supplies we found around the rec center. Sam had mentioned while Evan was still flattening balls that he wanted to get an early start at heading to the safe zone as soon as we could. They made plans that the first place we would head is back to our building to get anything we felt we had to have from there and get the carts. After Evan finished my armor he sent me to go sleep with Hannah and Daisy. Sam, Aaron, and Evan were all still talking but they were being too quiet for me to make out what they were saying. Their voices turned into white noise as I fell asleep.

I woke up to Aaron slightly shaking Daisy and me. Hannah was already up and sitting with Hunter, she had a cup of something in her lap.

"Come on girls, get up and get some oatmeal. We're going to get suited up and head over to our building." He said as I sat up and Daisy stretched. Hunter came over with two cups and spoons to hand off to us. I could smell the cinnamon before I took mine.

Evan was already working on getting Hunter's armor on, Sam was working on Aaron. As soon as we finished eating they were getting us suited up and helping each other with the last touches on theirs.

"Stick together while we're out there, no one goes anywhere alone." Sam said as he watched the screens.

"Looks like it's as clear as its going to get." Evan said and Sam nodded back to him.

We headed to the front door in a group. Evan and Aaron pulled the barricade down as Hunter and Sam stood off ready to fight our way out if we had to. When the doors opened, there was a group of people standing there, they all looked at us like deer in the headlights. They let us pass but as soon as we were clear of the doors they rushed into the building and slammed the door closed.

"Don't think they're going to try to get to the safe zone." Evan said.

"Don't think they're even going to open the door again to let us try and help them." Aaron said.

Sam urged us to start moving and we stayed close to the buildings where we had the benefit of staying in shadows. The ten-minute walk back to our building felt more like hours long as we darted from one building to another and had to change directions to avoid wandering groups of Red Eyes.

They didn't seem to notice us, but they were following someone, or something. Sam kept us moving, he had Hunter behind him, Aaron was sticking right with us girls, and Evan was bringing up the rear. We could finally see our building, and it looked untouched. The outside was a different matter. It looked like a battle had taken place, there were limbs lying on the ground with no bodies nearby.

We continued around to the front of the building where the parking lot was. Aaron had gone out a head to check if we were going to run into any trouble.

"Sam the carts are gone." Aaron called back and pointed to the empty parking lot.

"Shit." Hunter muttered.

"It's fine let's get inside and we will regroup in Drew's room." Sam said. He started walking and we all followed.

The hallway was empty and we had no problem getting to Drew's room. The door was still open from when they were searching for Denver and Diamond. Nothing in the room was touched. I guess who ever took the carts didn't think there would be anything useful inside once they had the vehicles. Evan secured the door while we all sat around the living room. Sam pulled out the radio.

"Drew?" he asked.

"Sam. Where are you guys?" Drew's voice came through.

"At your room, right now. We were planning to take the carts but they're gone."
