"Can we walk this time?" You said nervously, making Peacock sigh, "Fine, scaredy-cat." You glared, "I'm not scared. I just hate heights." You huffed. "Yeah, sure." Peacock said smugly. "Where are we going anyway?" You asked, confused by the dark and gloomy route you to were taking.
"Well, I said you could stay with me, didn't I? We're goin' to Anti-Skullgirl Lab 8!" She said excitedly. You followed behind her, feeling the burning of eyes against your back. You grabbed hold of Peacock's 'arm' and mumbled, "I think someone's watching us." She laughed, "Duh, all 8 a' my eyes are watchin' ya'." She pointed to the eyes on her arms.
You shook your head and continued to follow.
You both arrived at your destination and you stared in awe, "Wow." Peacock smiled, "It's pretty swell." You held her shoulders, shaking her lightly, "What do you mean, this place is incredible!" You said happily.
Then, someone cleared their throat and in front of you stood an old man with blood red eyes, similar to the one's on Peacock's arms. "I see you've finally made your way back. And with some company as well." He spoke, giving you a disapproving stare.
You held your arm, a shy look on your face as you waved slowly, "Don't be such a downa', Doc. This is Y/N. I met 'er yesta'day!"
Peacock explained taking yours and the man's hand and putting them together to shake. You gave him a kind smile, "It's nice to meet you sir. I'm sorry if I kept Peacock out later than she should've been or something...." the man let go of your hand and held up his in front of your face, silencing you.
"No need for that. It's fine. Just don't do it again, please." He grumbled. You nodded vigorously and Peacock grabbed your hand, pulling you inside, "So, I sorta, kinda promised 'er she could stay with us, is that okay? Okay, bye!" She quickly ran inside with you and laughed.
The old man glared and pulled out a walkie-talkie, "Benjamin, I am calling a meeting tonight. Tell Patricia that she is required to attend for important matters." "Gotcha, Dr. Avian."
The man put the small device away and went inside, an irritated glint in his eyes as he watched you and Peacock sit and talk. "And I said, 'Ain't no room in this town for mooks like you. So, scram before I make ya'!'" You laughed at her, holding a hand to your mouth and sitting on the floor.
"So, do you have a room or something?" You asked. "Yeah! Wanna go up there and watch some good ol' TV?" You gave her a grin and a nod, rushing behind her as she zoomed up the stairs. You both hurried in her room, seeing the confused and amused stares of other scientists and test subjects in the hallways of the Lab.
Peacock shut the door and hopped on her bed, removing her hat. Avery flew from her head and landed on your shoulder, rubbing her face to your cheek. You scratched her head while giggling, finding it adorable.
"C'mon, sit up 'ere with me. You don't gotta sit on the floor, y'know?" Peacock offered as she was putting her hat in her pocket. You were confused by this, but ignored it and crawled onto her bed, sitting next to her.
She grabbed the remote and turned on Annie: Girl of the Stars. As you slowly became immersed in the show, you felt an arm wrap around your shoulder and tug you. Blood rushed to your face as Peacock continued to pull you closer to her.
She hugged you, resting her head on top of yours since you were smaller than her. You held her arm and smiled contently at the warm feeling of embrace. You heard her yawn. "I guess staying up late and using your energy for fights has got you tuckered out, huh?" You laughed.
She gasped in fake offense, "How dare ya' think I can't stay up late. I'm the masta' of late-night bingin'...." she trailed off slowly as her eyes drooped slightly. You snickered, looking up at her. You head something shuffle and saw a small, walking bomb with an eight ball design.
He waved, hopping on the bed, along with Avery and a few others. "Boss needs to sleep earlier so she can have more energy in the morning. She loves going out and doing tons of missions." Avery explained. She picked up Peacock's head and the other little creatures picked up her body and legs, moving her off of you.
"Thanks you guys. But, I can adjust her myself." They nodded and hopped down from the bed, letting you carry Peacock and lay her down the right way. You sat next to her sleeping form, looking her up and down and admiring her features.
Her small, round nose. Her thin, but long arms. Her adorably messy, orange hair. You brushed her head, falling onto your back and dozing off.
"Peacock, wake up." A voice called her. She sat up quickly, looking around and seeing Big Band standing at her door with it cracked open slightly. She looked down at your sleeping face next to her. She smiled, blush coming to her face.
"Stop staring at your little girlfriend and come on." Big Band whisper-shouted. Peacock glared at him, face bright red, "She's not my girlfriend! At least not yet~" she went from flustered to smug quickly. Big Band rolled his eyes leaving and waiting for her to follow.
She leaned down kissing your forehead and chuckling as you stirred quietly, "Be right back." She made her way out of the room and down the hall, rubbing her eyes and yawning. She saw Big Band, Dr. Avian, Hive, and Valentine at the end of the hall and she ran over.
"What do ya' want? It's two in the goddamn morning people." Peacock grumbled. "Do you know who you have in your room?" Dr. Avian began to shout, but not too loud as to wake you. "Uh, Y/N?" "Exactly! Y/N L/N!" Peacock's eyes widened in shock. But, she hardly even recognized you! She just assumed that Y/N was a common name.
"Apparently, someone didn't inform me that the daughter of the Skullgirl, M/N L/N was still alive when I specifically told you months ago to finish the family off!" Dr. Avian scolded Peacock. Her heart sank as she heard the door open and a quivering voice speak, "W-What are you talking about?" You spoke, eyes wide and tears preparing to cascade down you S/C cheeks.
"Wait, Y/N! I-I can explain!" You were confused and angry, "Please do." You said, crossing your arms. "I-I....I'm sorry about ya' mom. I destroyed the only family ya' had left and I feel so guilty, but p-please, you've got ta' unda'stand, I-"
"There's no need for explanations, Patricia. Ms. L/N and her daughter were a danger to the world and had to be eradicated. You couldn't finish the job, but we can." Dr. Avian said tiredly. "Benjamin, bring her to me." He spoke.
The tall man came toward you and you coward in fear. "I'm sorry, but for the sake of the world, I must get rid of you." Big Band said apologetically. This was too much information for you to process. Your mom was the previous Skullgirl? If that's true and it's been seven years, that means that you...are the next Skullgirl.
That night your mother was shot, you couldn't see the face of the attacker, but you understood now. You couldn't believe you trusted them. Trusted her. Peacock made you feel special and she took your heart and tore it in two.
You buried your face in your hands as Big Band stood in front of you. He raised his arm, preparing to strike, when a purple aura surrounded you and you lifted your head, revealing deep, red eyes. You released a high-pitched scream and the windows in the Lab cracked, some shattering completely.
Dr. Avian, fell to the ground, multiple large pieces of glass falling on him and leaving open cuts on his skin. Peacock gasped, trying to help him up, but he stopped her, pointing a shaking hand at you as you began to run through an open window and outside.
