CHAPTER THIRTEEN | THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

CAROLINE HAD FLIPPED HER SWITCH AND COMPLETE DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE. Elena and Klara had arrived at Whitmore College to check if the Forbes vampire was there, but instead that arrived to see her room was completely cleared out. It appeared that Stefan also had the same situation.

"It's like she never lived here," Elena explained as she looked through Caroline's drawers. Klara held her phone on loudspeaker with Stefan on the other end of the line. "How's her house?"

"Totally empty," Stefan announced with a loud sigh as Klara frustratedly ran a hand through her hair. "Caroline took everything but the damn doors off their hinges."

"This doesn't make any sense. What vampire that just turned off their humanity, grabs all their clothes and thank you notes, then skips town?" Klara scoffed at how organized Caroline was, even without humanity.

"Uh, you do realize you're stood next to the girl that burned her house down, right?" Stefan replied as the two girls looked at each other.

"Do you think she's trying to cut off all ties from her past?" The doppelganger raised an eyebrow as Klara shrugged.

"I certainly don't think she's having a yard sale, Elena."

"Hey, hey calm down." Klara immediately interrupted when she heard the snippy tone in Stefan's voice. "We're gonna find her. Everything's gonna be fine. Elena and I will go check around Campus, call me if you find anything."

"Alright, I will." Stefan sighed and then ended the call.

"Looks like you two could use a friend." The soft voice of Bonnie Bennett echoed from the doorway as the two vampires turned around to face them with wide eyes.

"Oh, my God," Klara whispered out as tears of joy brimmed in her eyes.

"Bonnie? How are you—"

"—Alive?" The girl shrugged with a smirk on her face as she walked in. "You'd think I'd be used to this part by now." The three girls wasted no time pulling each other in for a three-way hug that was definitely needed. Once they pulled away, Bonnie hurried over to her dresser. "My not-flannel blouse. My not-flannel t-shirts. And, ooh! I really missed my not-flannel V-necks."

"Suck it, 1994!" Elena cheered before she popped a bottle of champagne open. The cork flew across the room as the two girls didn't notice the fact that Bonnie immediately looked startled at the noise. "So, Klara and I bought this bottle of champagne the same day that we thought we were gonna rescue you, but obviously, we didn't. So, we couldn't drink it. So, this is to you. You were stuck there all by yourself while we were back here, living our lives. And, this is the worst toast, ever."
