Why - his mom. It's an ongoing battle whether or not should you be in his life and you two break things off often but it's never serious although all your friends are kind if sick of it by now

Why - the first one was not that serious cause you quickly got back together. This idiot didn't take well how everyone (aka other kids who in reality had no business caring about your relationship) gave you shit for dating a loser. He really thought he's gonna get rid of you and he's doing YOU a favor.
The second time was painful. He moved away and the relationship wasn't working so he just called you and broke things off
Did you get back together? - first time yes. But after you met again in your 40s it's still unclear what you are especially after Eddie's death cause neither of you is in the mood to discuss such things
