TWENTY-SIX – Mess

The remaining four days of the leadership training seminar were a blur. The only solid memory that they had of it was the fact that it was so long, it felt like it was like a lifetime. But, it wasn’t as dreaded as they thought it would be. It was, in fact, enjoyable. It was just that it is forgettable.

Kise sends a text message to Momoi that Thursday night, as she is the only the best person to relay information to Sayoko. He sends the details of the scheduled date for tomorrow, telling him that he will pick her up at Akashi’s vacation house at 9 in the morning.

Momoi unintentionally opens the message and happen to read it. She lets out a squeal that resonated at the entire floor, alarming some of the boys at the other end of the hallway. They rush in her room, only finding their secretary jumping for joy.

“Sayoko-chan~” she sang, calling out the girl across the room. She has been sitting at her bed motionless for the past minutes, indulging herself in a book. “You’re going on a date with Ki-chan?”

It takes a few seconds for the raven-haired councilor to process the thought, and finally remembering the call she had with Kise last Sunday. “Oh yeah, it’s tomorrow…” she affirmed. “Did he tell you something about it?”

The pink-haired scurries towards Sayoko’s bed and sits beside her. She shows the text message on the phone, whereas the female councilor reads it expressionlessly.

“That’s good to know,” Sayoko bluntly responded, giving a small nod. She then turns her attention back to her book.

Momoi places her hand on the book, pulling it down to see Sayoko’s face. “What? How?” she asked enthusiastically. “I want to know everything…”

The councilor’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of Momoi’s reaction. “Well, he contacted me last Sunday through your phone, asking me if I wanted to explore the city with him. Since I have no plans at that day, I thought that I might as well go.”

“Ki-chan’s taking you out on a date?!” Momoi’s voice was laced with curiosity, and her eyes were sparkling with interest. The other girls in the room stopped by and came closer, listening to her.

“Yeah, you could say,” Sayoko bluntly responded. She did not understand as to why Momoi would make such a big fuss over it. “We’ve done it a few times in the past, actually.”

“Really?!” Momoi’s grin reached for the heavens as she let out a squeal. “I knew it!” she exclaimed, fist in the air.

Sayoko is confused with the pink-haired secretary’s reaction. Even their roommates are covering their blushing faces. “Ki-chan never takes out a girl on a date,” Momoi explained, but Sayoko can barely make out the words coming out of her mouth due to too much squealing. “I know; I’ve been there. Do you know what this means, Sayoko-chan?”

The raven-haired female raises a brow. “And that would be─?”

“He likes you, Sayoko-chan!” Momoi shrieked, grabbing Sayoko’s hands.

Sayoko’s brows furrow together with what Momoi said. She thought that the pink-haired female and those girls behind her are too assumptive. They’re overreacting, she thought. The councilor can’t help but feel a little warm, a light shade of pink evident on her face.

Momoi stands up and places her hands on her waist. “We need to prepare for this date!” she announced. The two girls, who were class representatives, approached the pink-haired female, supporting her.

Sayoko continues to look at them with a confused look. “Look, you don’t have to…” she argued, but her words fell unto deaf ears.

“Okay, we need to plan this – we’ll fix your hair and prepare your dress for tomorrow!” Momoi announced, while the other two scurried the entire room to find for dresses and supplies like make-up and hair products.
