The next few months were amazing. Being able to relax, and knowing that nothing bad was happening, since I wasn't being called on a mission. Well, at least until today.
We are currently having movie night in Wanda's apartment. Wanda and Vision were cuddling on one side of the couch, while Pietro and I were on the other side. I was sitting in between his legs, while his arms were wrapped around my waist, and a blanket overtop of us.
These nights will always be my favorite. Where we are just sitting together, just being in each other's presence. It's relaxing, and nothing will be able to ruin it, even if... RING RING RING.
"Oh, come on, I thought I told everyone to turn off their phone," Pietro says, clearly annoyed that his movie choice is being interrupted.
"Sorry," I say, and get out of the comfortable position I was in to get my phone that was on the kitchen counter. I look at the contact number and see that Senator Ross was calling me. It's probably just a check in, no worries. "I'll be right back," I say to the group, and walk out into the hallway.
"Hey boss, what's up?" I say, leaning against the wall.
"Good to see you're still alive," he says. "We have an undercover mission for you." Then my heart sank. Undercover missions take the longest to complete. The longest mission I have been on is 6 months, and I don't want to be away that long from everyone.
"Give me what you got," I say, hiding my disappointment.
"We have reason to believe this company on the black market is trying to recreate Wanda and Pietro's powers after they were seen in Sokovia. You will be stationed in Guatemala city, where you will go undercover as a barista. We believe the factory is right across the shop," he says, and I get confused.
"How are they replicating that? Don't they need Loki's scepter for that?" I ask.
"We know that, but they don't. They keep making serums, and inserting them with young kids. Almost a dozen have been reported dead, so we are sending you in and reporting anything you see," Ross says.
"When do I start?" I ask, dreading the conversation I'm going to have with the twins and Vision.
"Monday is your first shift there. I want you to fly to New York first, to get your file and the rest of the information you will need," he says. I have 5 days to get ready, and leave.
"I'll see you then," I say, and hang up the phone. I lay my head all the way back on the wall, not excited to tell them I'm going to leave for so long, and no one knows when I'll be back.
I sigh, knowing I should face this sooner than later, I walk back into the apartment, sitting back in the position with Pietro. Not wanting to interrupt his movie that he was very excited for, I decided to wait until afterwards.
The movie quickly finished, and we went back to our apartment. Pietro was fangirling over the movie, which I found adorable, but I'm glad he was doing that, so I could stall, not having the heart to tell him.
I grab the red grapes out of the fridge, and start popping them into my mouth. "And the part where he ran into the movie train, hilarious," he says, and takes a good look at me after his laughter calmed down. "What's wrong?"
"What do you mean what's wrong?" I ask, popping another grape into my mouth.
"Everytime something is bothering you, you train, insult someone, or stress eat grapes," he says.
"I do not silverlocks," I say, and realize what I said. "Okay, maybe you're right." I put the grapes back, and take a deep breath. "Remember the call I got during the movie?"
"Don't say it," he says, dropping his head.
"I got called in for a mission," I say, and he sighs.
"And you said it," he says. "How long will you be gone?"
"That's the thing, I don't know," I say, and I can see his mood change even more. "It's an undercover mission, and it could take me awhile."
There was a moment where we just stood there, in silence. "Just don't get hurt, okay?"
"You're not mad?" I ask, knowing how he was the last couple of times.
"I'm not mad, you're doing what you love, I can't get in the way of that. I just worry when you're on a mission like this, mostly when I won't be able to be there," he says.
"I know, I know. I hate leaving too," I say. "I leave in five days, and I need to work out, so do you want to train before I go."
"Depends if you want to get beaten," he says with a smirk.
"Ok Speedy, you can think that," I say, kissing his cheek. "I'm going to bed, you coming?"
"Depends what we're doing in bed," he says with a smirk. I slap his chest, and laugh, walking to our bedroom.
