"He's such an asshole!" You complained to Mia as you stood by the register.

Your best friend simply shook her head in disbelief before pushing up her reading glasses. "I can't believe he said that though. He's not that insensitive..."

"Oh but believe me, he did!" You were pissed. Someone else could have said the same sentence to you and you wouldn't give a shit about them, but Marco, he was different...

"Did he try to say something else?" Rocinante finally spoke up, poking his head from the break room, startling you. "Pardon me but I couldn't help but over hear your conversation." He rubbed the back of his neck as his lips lifted in a nervous smile.

"Say.... something?" You frowned. "What do you mean, Roci?"

Was he trying to say something?

You bit down on your nail as you thought.

Mia cleared her throat, demanding for your attention. You looked at her and Rocinante who was waiting for your reply. "Well?" She asked.

You sighed.

Maybe you have overreacted. He was trying to say something but you wouldn't let him. What if that was not he was trying to say? You felt guilt starting to settle in your gut. You felt horrible.... And you were sure Marco felt even more horrible.

You slowly nodded at them. "Yeah." You smiled awkwardly. "He was trying to say something, but I cut him off..."

Rocinante and Mia exchanged a glance before looking at you skeptically.

"Oh god I'm so stupid!" You dropped your head on the register.

"You are." Mia crossed her arms and jutted her hip to the side. "I can't believe you didn't listen to the poor guy. I'm sure if he had known he made you feel this badly when you overheard, he'd surely apologize."

You pouted. "Why are you making this my fault."

You heard her sigh and her footsteps grew nearer. She slumped herself over your slouching figure and hugged you from behind while patting your head. "I'm not. It's Marco's fault too for... You know, in the first place. But you should've listened to what he gotta say before you lashed out at him am I right?"

"I guess so." You mumbled.

Just then you heard the door to the shop open, the bell above jingling as several footsteps approached. You kept your head down and decided you'll let Mia deal with the customers today. "Oh," a surprised sound left her lips. "Uh, Welcome to Heart You, Books and Galore! How may we help you?"

"So this is where you worked!" You heard a goofy voice you'd recognize anywhere.

Ace... But that would mean--

"I just need some supplies is all, yoi." His voice was dull.

You sighed and finally got the courage to lift your head up. "Oh hey (F/n)!" Ace grinned at you. It was then you noticed Sabo too, standing behind them, looking at the neatly placed murder mystery books on the shelves.

No surprise since the man himself works at a private investigation agency.

"Hey Ace." You couldn't help but smile after seeing his stupid grin. You looked down at your register when you felt Marco approach you. You glanced at Mia to see she was chatting up with Ace and not helping you with Marco.

Traitor!

"Uh," you looked up at Marco's brown eyes, only to avert them to the side when you made eye contact. "Art supplies, right?" You motioned him to follow you.
