It was a cold Autumn sunrise in Cincinnati. We had all just moved into our 3rd house of the year so far, and were finally settled. Obviously, me and Johnny had to share a room as per usual since we were the youngest. The rest of them got their own rooms, which I found slightly unfair considering out of the 7 times we ever moved in the past, me and Johnny had to share. I still loved them all though, we were a family and always would be.

The room was getting there, the walls slightly chapped and a mellow orange but we weren't that fussed. It was likely that we'd have moved in the next 6 months so there was no point spending days trying to perfect the walls and flooring. No visitors were due either.
The flooring was a basic wood, quite chapped and stuff. The cold draft was seeping through the slats so I had to stay in my pjamas for the rest of that day. In the corner, I had a small typewriter that I got for my birthday from Dally and Sodapop. Every day I'd write small parts to a story or a poem. For some reason, these caring yet criminals that I resided with were oh so passionate about making sure I still got an education, even though theoretically the education system didn't even know there was anyone to the name of Ellie Cade.
I was called 'greenie' by the gang, for the reason of being so kind to nature and not wanting to hurt anything. Sometimes I'd forget my name was Ellie in fact, I'd occasionally hang out with some kids around here and mistakenly say Greenie instead. I didn't mind it at all though, it made me feel included actually - we all have our own nicknames known by each other. I hung out with Steve a lot. Johnny was alright, but he was my brother. He annoyed me so much, and it didn't help when he used my ink from the typewriter to write stupid shit either.

I really hated the new house. The area as well, just a field in front of it with about 3 houses around. It was so lonely, there was only one person I spoke to, a girl called Annie. She told me how she went out with Bob a few years ago, but once Dally found out about it I was forbidden to meet her ever again. Supposedly she might be on our case, out to get us. It made it even worse that Dal had a crush on her. Two Bit and Darry had to calm him down for about 2 hours.

But this was the new life , again. Let's see how long it took before we were running away, this time.
