The town was busy as Kurt lead Hawks around pointing out places he and the others like to go to. From the arcade to one of the city's libraries. Group of teenagers were walking together talking and laughing. Hawks' gaze traveled around to all the building.
It was different from home, streets, types of buildings, to the signs he couldn't read yet some how felt like he knew what they meant.
Then the familiar smell of fried chicken made look as family walked out of the restaurant. His mouth water think of the food.
"Hawks are listening?" The seven-year-old blinked as he was drawn out of food driven daze as he looked up at Kurt. The dark blue haired teen looked down at him. The young boy gave a sheepish grin as Kurt chuckles and smiles back at the young boy.
Hawks soon noticed people were staring at them and whispering someone pointed at him and said something like "That freaky kid has wings."
Hawks tighten his grip on Kurt's hand as they walked. Why are they whispering? "How come people whispering?" Hawks asked, looking up at Kurt.
The dark blue-haired teen looked down at him. The ashy-blonde boy blinked and looked down in shame. I don't like this.
"We're different from everyone. Some people don't like it they just don't understand," Kurt said as he looked at the object on his wrist as he seamed lost in his own thoughts.
"But, if you can prove them wrong make them understand?" Hawks asked looking back up at him.
"It's not that easy, people aren't very willing to seeing us as us, but as freaks and shun us for who we are. Even if we help sometimes its not enough."
Kurt looked over at Hawks, who gazed down at ground frowning. "I want to be a hero, I don't want people to be scared of me or of you," he whispered. Can't we get along?
" I won't worry about right now. Just enjoy life and being kid."
"What do you mean?"
Kurt stopped walking and looked at Hawks, who was giving him an confused and curious look. "Hold on, have you ever had fun?"
The winged boy shook his head. "Not, that I can remember."
Kurt began laughing, causing Hawks give him a look of confusion.
"Oh man, we'll just have fix that, trust me, I show how to let lose." Kurt said as he smiles at Hawks.
Let.. lose? "Yeah, sure." The seven-year old said as he smiles back at Kurt.
Just then loud shouting rang out, drawing both Hawks' and Kurt's attention to the group of four teens down the street always yelling something. They looked to be drawing attention to themselves and unwanted attention to Hawks and Kurt.
"Great," Kurt grumbled causing Hawks to look up at him. The teenager had irritation sparking in his black gaze. "Just our lucky day." he said then noticed Rouge walking their way and waved her over.
Hawks took his gaze off the people around them and looked over at Rouge as she walked up.
"What going on?" Kurt asked her once she was in earshot.
"The Brotherhood is causing trouble again." She crossed her arms, glaring at the group of teens yelling and taunting them.
Hawks moved closer between the two teens trying to make him invisible. Why are they being mean to us, we haven't done anything wrong? Hawks looked down. "Why are they being mean to us?" he asked softly.
Rouge and Kurt looked down at the boy between them. Rouge placed a hand on his back, "They just bullies," she said to Hawks turning her face to the teens and glared briefly at them again.
"Look, if ya guys are heading back, I'll come with ya." She said turning to face Kurt and Hawks again.
Kurt nodded, "come on Hawks, let go." The boy looked at over at the group behind them. "Ignore them, they're not worth our time," Rouge told him. Together the X-Men and Hawks left the city behind them.
**********
"I don't see why they have to act like their better than us, we've beat them every time," Kurt sighs, he was still holding Hawks hand as they walked the long paved road back to the mansion.
"Let them. They know we won't use our powers in public where others can see," Rouge said. "Ya never had to deal with something like that, have ya." she said, gazing down at Hawks as they walked.
"Uh, uh." The seven-year-old shook his head.
"That's good." Rouge said looked ahead once more. "Since they use their powers for personal reasons, they aren't careful like us, so we always been clashing in and out of school."
"But, why do they do it?" Hawks asked looking up at her. "They are bullies with powers," Kurt said, shrugging. "Nothing bad has happened that we couldn't handle."
So, they're like the bad guys' heroes fight then? But they didn't look like normal bad people. Hawks thought as they drew closer to home.
