Chapter 20

A/n: Major Trigger Warning

I screamed my brother's name over and over again as I raced to the window.

He was diving down, trying to grab my father as he fell, but he didn't make it in time.

Kazi managed to grab his hand just as he hit the ground with a horrible crunch.

I didn't realize I was half way out the window until Ukraine pulled me back.

“Stairs.” He said firmly, pulling me back into the room.

I nodded, still in a daze as he pulled me to lean against him so I could use him as a crutch.

We hurried down the back stairs as fast as we could, Bela close behind. As soon as we were out the back door, I could see my father laying in a pool of blood, a terrified Kazakhstan by his side.

“Dad!” I gasped, pulling away from Uke and falling down by my father's side, cradling his bleeding head in my arm. “No… no no no no no no no…..”

His eyes fluttered open weakly, barely able to concentrate on my face.

  “Russia…” He said weakly.

“Shh Dad no, you have to save your strength-” I looked around frantically. “Someone call an ambulance!”

He grabbed my wrist, clamping down on it with surprising strength.

“There's no time.” He said urgently.

“What? No, Dad no…” I felt my eyes fill with tears, a few moments ago, I was prepared to kill this man. But now I couldn't bear to watch another parent die before my eyes. “Dad why…. Why did you have to do all this…?”

I looked at him, begging him to tell me, yearning for some sort of answers in his last moments of clarity.

“Your mother… she was everything to me….” He said softly, almost with a tenderness in his voice. “You took her away from me…”

“You were abusing us!” I shouted in anger. “Mom killed herself because of you! You were drunk and you hated us!”

“She wanted kids… I didn't….” He seethed. “I wanted her to be happy.”

  “Y-you're sick….” I was beginning to shake.

“She was… so depressed after your accident. You were stupid to get hurt. You hurt her…”

“I WAS HIT BY A PLANE!! AT NINE YEARS OLD!!”

He grabbed me by the throat, threatening to choke me.

I could see Uke step forwards but I stopped him with a look and turned my attention back to my father.

“Do it...Do it you bastard…” I said, my voice dripping with anger and pain. “Kill me just like you killed mom.”

He squeezed for a moment before letting go as he coughed, blood sputtering from his mouth.

“She would be alive… if it wasn't his fault.” He glared at Ukraine.

“What are you talking about?” Uke growled, but he looked scared.

“If it weren't… If it weren't for your Chernobyl incident.. We could have had more money to save her. You're a selfish, no good, spoiled brat. You should have died you piece of shit.” He spat, more blood dribbling down his mouth.

“Don't talk to my brother like that!” I shook him violently. “Don't you dare!”

He coughed harder, his eye fluttering, and his body starting to convulse.
