Matthew's POV
We were all outside tossing the football around as Our fathers were talking and judging by Marcus' hand motions, I could only assume it was about Bean still breastfeeding at four. I then saw Lenny run inside and carry Greg and Keithie outside. Then Becky came out and Kurt and Eric went running in for their kids. Marcus and Rob walked over to us and said that they were all going for a hike and asked if we wanted to go as well. We just all looked at each other and came to a consensus.
The 5: Yes.
Marcus: Stop doing that. It's creepy.
We all laughed as we spoke in unison sometimes and freaked our parents out often. After we were in the woods for awhile my father spoke up. Me, Max, Adam, Alice, and Hannah, were walking behind everyone else.
Eric: When we were kids, your dad used to talk us into doing the craziest stuff.
Matthew: Here we go.
Lenny: That's right.
Kurt: Yeah, I remember one time, we got our shower curtains put them in shopping carts and went shopping cart sailing.
Andre: Wait, how did you steer?
Eric: Well, we didn't.
Greg: How'd you stop?
Lenny: You just smashed into something. That was the fun part.
Hannah gave me a mischievous smile. I knew she wanted a piggy back ride. So, I stopped and let her on my back. Then her father started speaking.
Marcus: We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other.
Adam: You go for the guy's face because you wanna blind him.
Kurt: And how do you know that?
Adam: Matthew had us do it.
Matthew: Hannah told me about it.
Hannah: My father taught me.
Rob: Anyways, that's a little much, pal.
Marcus: No. No, I know. Kids, don't do that. You know what, erase, reboot.
Marcus then did a fairly spot on VHS tape rewind sound.
Lenny: Okay. Look, look. Make a tree fort. I'll get you started.
Lenny then put a seemingly sturdy branch between two trees. it almost seemed like a pull up bar.
Eric: Rob lived in one of those for a year.
Greg: Why?
Rob: My dad took away my roller skates.
Marcus: Vietnam flashback.
Lenny: Wait a minute. Are you kidding me?
Lenny stopped with the tree fort. he walked over somewhere else. I looked at the started tree fort nd started doing pull ups with Hannah on my back. I could feel her blushing as she shoved her face into the back of my neck. Just a few more days. I do ten pull ups then I stop. I walk over to join everyone else.
Kids: What?
Adults: What?
Marcus: Nice.
Eric: Rope on a tree, baby. You know what that means?
Charlotte: We get to hang ourselves?
Matthew: I have a new favorite Mackenzie.
Adam: Dude, seriously. I am way more fun.
Hannah and Alice laugh at that.
Lenny: You see a rope and a lake and that doesn't make you wanna go nuts?
Eric: It makes me... You know what? You know what, let me show them.
My dad grabs the rope from Lenny, and heads into a swinging position.
Lenny: Dude, get up on the top rock.
Eric: Yeah, you're right.
Lenny: You gotta back it up, back it up.
Eric: The class is in session. Who wants to see a double flip? Too high.
Everyone: Now drop.
Eric: This was a mistake. I can't let go, I'm too scared.
My dad didn't let go and instead smashed into a tree and rolled down hill.
Keithie: That was awesome.
I then slapped Keithie upside the head.
Eric: Oh, God. Oh, God, my leg's snapped. Oh, my God, the bone's sticking out.
I could easily tell it was a stick, but Hannah was starting to look a bit queasy, so I covered her eyes and rubbed her back to help her breathe.
Eric: I need help. It's a stick. I got you.
Lenny: Very good.
Becky: Daddy, that bird is hurt.
Lenny: Oh, my God. I'll go get a shoebox.
Max: Ran down and wrapped the bird in his button down shirt. Marcus went to help my dad who was okay, but did take quite a wipeout.
Marcus: Here you go. Hey, did you really land on that bird, man?
Eric: I'm not sure. I did hear a chirp and a crunch-like noise, but that could've been anything.
Matthew/Hannah: Like a bird being crushed
Marcus: Okay when all five of you speak together it is creepy, but you two...
Eric: It's very adorable.
Marcus: That's the word. Adorable.
Hannah: Dad!
She hid her face in my back as we all started to head back to the cabin.
