Hannah's POV
We all sat down right behind my father. Max was on the aisle, then Adam, then Alice, I was next, Then Matthew was right next to me. We sat down and quietly looked forward as people were filing in. This coach Buzzer was important to a lot of people. Anyways as we were waiting for the service to start Alice and Adam were whispering to each other and Max was flirting with a girl in a different row. I was just trying not to blush because we were all squished together and Matthew became really fit. When he moved away he wasn't out of shape, he was just thin built. He even looked like that on Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods. He must be getting in shape for the movie he's working on. I really hope he'll tell us. The room then started to quiet down as the reverend stood at the pulpit.
Reverend: Coach Robert "The Buzzer" Ferdinando...was a caretaker by profession. What a wonderful word to describe his devotion to his fellow man. He truly took care. When Robert knew that his time was short...he told me there was one specific man he wanted...to say a few words to memorialize him. So I'd like to ask Lenny Feder to come up now.
Mr. Feder then stood up and went up to the pulpit.
Lenny: I'm sorry, I'm not prepared at all. I feel very honored...that coach asked me to do this, but... I also feel terrible because I haven't seen the coach in so long. And he always wanted me to come to town and see him...and I got caught up in what I've been doing and I regret it. I understand that the St. Mark's team of 1978...was the only championship team that the coach ever had...and that's very impressive, I gotta say...judging from the talent we had to offer. I mean, believe it or not...Robbie and Marcus were actually shorter back in 1978.
Mr. Feder Joked. Then There was laughter amongst the crowd.
Eric: But those guys had a skill you never mastered. They knew how to pass the ball.
Matthew chuckled at his dads joke. Then Mr. Feder responded back causing some more laughter.
Lenny: Looks like somebody has to learn how to pass the Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. We're saying goodbye to a big part of our lives. All of us. You affected everybody in this room. And I hope we get to live our lives like you. Have no regrets when life's final buzzer sounds. So let's all bow our heads in silence.
Then Alice's dad went up and started singing in Italian. All of us and our parents were doing our best not to burst out laughing.
Adam: Alice, why didn't you tell me to bring opera glasses.
We all chuckled at the joke.
Matthew: I have 20 on him singing to the statue of Marry and 20 that he takes a knee at the end.
Max/Adam: You're on.
Alice: Boys.
Hannah: I know, right.
Anyhow, Rob did sing to the statue of Mary and finished on his knee. Max and Adam both passed him 40 dollars each. Then my dad made a buzzer noise as soon as the last note ended. Everyone in the church up roared into laughter. Just based off of the coaches nickname it was the right thing to do.
Rob: Grow up, will you?
Hannah: When you grow upwards we will!
There was more laughter. Rob joined his wife in the front row and then the service went on for a little bit longer.
