𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄, Chidoriyama girls' volleyball team was at an away game – more specifically at Kitagawa Daiichi. Of course, throughout your years at this junior high there were tournaments with other schools, but Chidoriyama (the girls team) usually lost during the preliminaries – whereas Kitagawa always made it in.
As the most experienced libero on the team, you were on the court, along with the new captain, Maeda and the ace, Keiko. There were four others, but they're side characters so they don't matter.
This would probably be the last game you would have in a while, that is until high school. You had better make it count. Volleyball was your pride and joy – something you loved getting competitive at. Your skill wouldn't let you down.
With that, Chidoriyama had won the first game of the day. It set up the momentum for the team; like you all could win the rest of the games later on. However, what you all realised was that that first game was a fluke. Kitagawa had won majority of the sets whereas you guys got left in the dust.
Overall, it was probably the most fun you had in a while.
"Thank you very much!"
。。。
There was something wrong. Something terribly wrong. It was a gut feeling – you wanted to puke. What was happening? You knew it wasn't bus sickness. Why did it get worse once the school came into view.
"Hey girls, another teacher just called me. Unfortunately, there's been a terrible accident that happened at school. The back of the school is being restricted right now so don't go over there. Grab your stuff off the bus, change and head home! Good work today."
"Osu."
Almost immediately, you grabbed your belongings and ran to your classroom – there would be an easy spot to look at the accident that had happened. You opened the classroom door and there was Mei and her friends, all of them with traumatic looks.
"...What did you do? What the hell did you do?!"
"[last name]! Why did you run off to the classroom?" Keiko popped her head out from the entrance. "Mei-chan... and friends. Why are–"
"Keiko, for the love of the lord stop talking." You stepped forward and slammed your palm against the nearest table. "Mei! What did you do?!"
"It was supposed to be a harmless joke! She wasn't supposed to fall!"
。。。
"Mei-chan, why don't we bring Harue up to the roof next time? We can give her a big scare! I think that'll be fun."
"Yeah, sure. Send her a note under [last name]. She'll willingly go if it's from a friend. We'll give her a shock."
"What should I write on it?"
"Do whatever you want! Just bring her up there after school. Oh, and make sure to mention the area with the construction. That way no one will be able to see us."
Okamoto Mei was a simple person with simple intentions. What you had originally thought was a superiority or inferiority complex was nothing more than your imagination – or more so, just you overanalysing her character.
She was a person to go along with what was considered 'cool' or 'preppy.' All Mei really wanted was to be popular – and that meant pulling others down from the pedestal to make her look higher.
Where it all began was with you – when she had first discovered that you were friends with her beloved Oikawa. She believed she truly liked him, and so she tried to bring you down; indirectly of course. She tried to spread rumours, she tried to make you do the stupidest things in class. It all failed because she realised you didn't give a shit.
