𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐆𝐔𝐍. Being a first-year again was quite intimidating. You were at the bottom of the hierarchy now – not sure how you felt about that after coming from the top.
You were placed in class 1-2; unfortunately, you didn't spot the boy you came to Karasuno with. He must've been put into another class – you would've liked to keep your streak with him. It would've been the fourth year if he was in your class.
And so, you were sitting in the same place you were in back in middle school. The right side of the room in the back seat – right by the back classroom door.
You pledged to yourself that you wouldn't join the volleyball club – either way... the reputation of the school hasn't been good recently. It's not like you would be able to grow as a player if you joined. Instead you've made up your mind to join the going-home club.
"Hey... Are you... um, okay?" A voice inquired. At first, you didn't think the person was speaking to you; after all, the boy who asked looked like a yankee.
"..."
"Heart been broke so many times." He muttered. "Please don't think I'm weird. You looked like you were going to cry."
"I wasn't, but thanks for asking... I guess?" It was now an awkward silence. The boy slid into his seat in front of you and didn't turn around. He put his head into his hands and sighed – you assumed it was because he embarrassed himself.
You paid no mind to it, but your attention was brought back to his figure when he turned to look at you. "What's... your name?"
"Yours first, Yankee-san. What's your name?"
"Yankee-san?! You–" His face turned a bright red as his fist clenched. "Wait, Ryū... Calm down." He exhaled. "I'm Tanaka Ryūnosuke. What's yours?"
"[last name] [name]. It's nice to meet you, Tanaka-san."
"Yeah, same... [last name]-san." Homeroom for some reason still hadn't begun and the rest of the students were chatting amongst themselves. Friends were already being made around the room while you were stuck with this short fuzzy blond-haired gangsta.
"Hey, what club are you in? Or going to join?" You raised an eyebrow after Tanaka asked the question – so, suddenly the two of you were friends? "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason." You pursed your lips. "I'm joining the going-home club."
"They have a club like that here? Anyway, I'm joining the volleyball club."
"I heard that it's now called the fallen champions after the club's been failing to get past the prelims for the past few years. I've heard that the current Coach Ukai is well-known but... what does that matter when the club isn't doing well?"
He wanted to yell at you. He wanted to put you in place, but he respected girls too much for that. "You sure know a lot about the team."
"My friend told me about it. That's all."
"Right..."
。。。
"[last name]! Let's have lunch together." Nishinoya stormed into the class without any notice and placed his bento onto your desk. "Do you want–" He noticed the boy sitting in front of you.
"Nishinoya, this is Tanaka-san... and how did you know what class I was in?"
"I saw it on the board outside of school this morning when I was checking for my class." He leaned down to whisper in your ear, "I don't think you should hang around him. Tanaka-san looks like a bad influence."
"I heard that." The blond-haired boy grumbled.
"Sorry, Nishinoya. I'd rather eat alone for now. Maybe another time." You apologised – you still weren't over the incident. Your mentality was that every friend you made would eventually leave you. That included Nishinoya – it hurt to see him look dejected, but... if that'll save you the fourth heartbreak; you'll continue acting like this.
The two boys watched you leave the room with your bento – they then looked at each other weirdly, not knowing what to say. Nishinoya was about to dip, but... "Hey, you should keep an eye on her. Nishinoya, right?"
The shorter boy nodded, and replied. "I've been watching her for a while. She hasn't been doing the best for the past few months. I'm really the only one she has left... Oh and, how did you know that I should keep an eye on her?"
Tanaka just rolled his eyes, "I have an older sister and she acts exactly like that when she's moody. I always have to keep tabs on her to make sure she doesn't get too drunk on days like that. [last name]-san... she looks like she's masking her emotions. Take care of her, Nishinoya."
"You sound like you know her personally." Nishinoya was quite angered by the fact that Tanaka had gotten so close to his beloved best friend in a matter of a day! It made him increasingly jealous after Tanaka had quickly analysed your feelings within seconds. "But, thanks, I guess. See you around."
Nishinoya didn't want to think about whether you liked him or Tanaka more.
But it was obvious, of course you liked him more.

[first-year high school]dear you,
i guess you can say i made a new friend, his name's tanaka. he's also a volleyball player... what a coincidence that i meet another player when i quit. it's like god wants me to play again.
or it's just watanabe's spell being finally casted to make sure i continue to play. it won't work though.
nishinoya on the way home was ranting about my classmate – apparently he was digging his nose into nishinoya's territory... but then nishinoya was all thankful that he did trespass? it's all quite confusing.
no matter how rowdy the boys are, i feel like I'm alone.
i miss harue and keiko.
i want them back here in miyagi. i guess you can say harue is here – but i'm not into ghost hunting.
there's just something about the school atmosphere that i'm missing out on – is that friends?
i keep isolating myself from everyone... i probably shouldn't do that but i can't help it. i just want to be left alone. all alone.
hajime and tooru came by to see how i was going the other day during the spring break. i'm sure they know something's up with me. but they're taking their own advice, give space until they're ready to talk.
i don't think i'll ever be ready to talk.
especially now... my parents seem to be doing worse. whenever i bring mom up, dad cries. and that's not something i see everyday.
i haven't seen mom since that day i eavesdropped. maybe seeing my face reminded her of my dad – the man she cheated on. my existence was hurting her; i guess you could also say that i reminded her of the preexisting love she had for dad.
something that wasn't available to her anymore since she threw it out like it was trash.
this is all my fault, huh?
bye, [name].
it's canon that nishinoya and tanaka were in the same class for their first-year at karasuno... but imma change that hehe
