The sight of blood pulsing and thumping to the beat of Zimbwea's heart had made her twitch. She saw a figure's paw steps. The blood disappeared and she woke up. "Hey! Are you guys okay?" A voice rang. It was Arty the cheetah cub! The cub looked different than usual. It had only been a few days since her arrival and naming. Zimbwea couldn't figure out what was unusual. "I'm fine!" Kalamba sighed with relief. He was squirming digging his claws in the ground trying to stretch his back.
As Zimbwea starred harder at Arty she finally noticed it; Her paw was crooked. "Arty your paw!" Zimbwea squealed. "Yeah, it hurts, like a lot" she said with a humorous yet whimper tone. The healing cats examined Arty's paw and took her to the healing den. Kalamba was carefully pulling out splinters on his soft pads. "If I ever see a fallen log remind me to not rub my paws on it" he complained. He then murmured something she couldn't hear but he laughed as if he told himself a joke. Zimbwea cleaned the mud from the log off her rough pelt and headed out with Kalamba to the healing den."There are just bumps and a few scratches, you both may go home just don't move to much" Kavini the Healer said while pushing two poppy seeds up to them. "Eat these and you may go" he said.
Two days later a message had spread through the pride; the son of a king from another pride was killed, and his body went missing. Zimbwea worried the same happened to her. Her father obviously new the pride, he had his head hung low. She didn't want to ask questions as if they would make the situation worse.
"Hah! I bet it was a tiny cub looking for trouble. One less weakling to worry about in this savanna!" Claw snarled only loud enough for the wind to silent it. His mother cuffed him over the ear horrified in what he had said.
"I'm just thankful it wasn't me. I couldn't bear to think of my mother grieving over my dead body" Kalamba whimpered. Arty padded over to them looking confused. Kalamba and Zimbwea had become friends with Arty and they were close friends. "Why is there cold feelings coming from everyone?" Arty said. Kalamba explained the situation. Arty immediately felt bad and apologized about the loss. The three headed to the fresh kill pile and ate their meals. "Do you think we can start to be in training session soon?" Zimbwea asked. Kalamba shrugged and finished his zebra leg.
