"Dude, what just happened? I think I got whiplash," Jay asked still taken back from how the mood went from 0 to 100. "That my friend was Bambi. She's four years younger than me. Hell, you even seen picture at my Mama's house. I even have one in my room here. She would be the youngest sister; she left when she was seventeen and hasn't come back since. She didn't even come back for Seri's high school graduation the year she left. I've talk about her from time to time. Mama and Trev have tried to get her to come home, but she never has. I don't know why she's here now; it seems she's looking to stay since she is needing a job. I know she got in with an older man up there, I don't know if something happened or what. But she seems like she needed the job"
"I haven't been to your mom's place in two years. Not since the fire, plus they are hardly home. Your room has who knows what in it. Plus, I forget what I've done yesterday," he laughed, "I remember the hot brunette in your picture by your bed though. Thought it was an ex, but if she's here to stay, you can make it up to her. Introduce her to all of us. Hell, we can throw her a welcome home party."
"For someone so smart, you sound dumb a lot. But for real, she was wanting the receptionist job. I'm all for giving the job to her, she'll be a great addition. Hell, she might even help on the cars when we get backed up. She used to be a damn good mechanic. She had teacher's family adopt her and they were good with cars. She became a damn good mechanic. I'll ask mom how to get in touch with her or ask Seri. They might know, and the welcome home party might not be a bad idea." I was cut off just a commotion from the main room. When I entered Bones was drooling and talking about the corvette that passed them.
"Brothers, I'm telling you. It was like a blast from the 60's. I've seen them on tv and at car shows. But never one like that. I barely got a glimpse of the woman, but I think I'm in love." Bones tries to explain, but Loki interrupts him.
"She's far out of your reach. She has a standard that no one around here has filled. Rumor has it she is only in town to mourn her old man. She got married to some grandpa up in Hamilton. He passed away about a year or two ago, they had been together since she was eighteen," He looked at me, "I called my ma when y'all left to go talk to Jay. Ma said her old man passed and she popped up wanting to come home. 'Left her broke, figured she'd come to lick her wounds' is what Ma said."
"Loki, you know as well as I do, that was some shit rumor. Bambi isn't like that; she wouldn't shack up with a sixty some year old. There is more to that story, has to be. Mom and Seri spoke high of that man," I turned to Blaze, "she wants the receptionist job at the garage. I think she will make a great worker. Please give her a chance, Prez. This town probably won't if Loki's Ma has already gotten around. I never know why those two stopped getting along."
"It's true. Ma loves to stir the pot. In this case I seem to believe her. The old man did die." Loki said.
"You can hire her. I know how this town is with rumors." Blaze cut Loki off and walked over to Jay. They started talking and then walked away to Blaze's office.
Bambi use to be a bright kid, she had this glow about her. She was able to light up a room just by being herself. She was ornery as hell, you could tell she was up to something cause she'd get this spark in her eye. All that changed after our dad passed. Someone sucked that glow out of her. I was grieving myself and really didn't look to much into her. Then I focused on graduating high school and decided to go into military. I had to focus on getting out of here. I know that was no excuse, but I tried. By the time I got back to Diamond Valley, the little sister I knew was gone. Literally, she left when she was 17.
She wouldn't talk to me as much; she stayed in her room. When mama remarried a year after dad died, she was still stand offish. Seri and she gotten closer as sisters. I was just eight, but I understand what was going on. Bambi would be happy and joke around. Then in the later years she refused to go to anything our dad's side of the family. I remember one year Bambi was thirteen mama had tried to make her got to a Fourth of July cookout. Bambi locked herself in her room. When mama got in, Seri was used to get her to open the door, they talked for hours. I never knew what was said, but I do know mama was pissed. I know that's when mom and Katina, Loki's mom, had a huge fallout. Mom said Bambi didn't ever have to go and to this day if she goes, she stays a little, plays nice then leaves.
Her and Seri are the closest, even when Bambi went to college. Those two stayed close, then Bambi got some kind of job and didn't come home. But mama and Seri went to see her. They actually had another house in Hamilton, where Bambi moved to. They'd move there for the summer and then move back. This is where the rumors start, Bambi went to college. There she met a man, she was seventeen, and he was at this time in his 50s. Part of it was mama and Seri's fault, they would talk how nicely he treated her and how he was always doing this or that for her. They talked how he was always there. Then they said he "adopted" Bambi. Which led to the older town folks saying they was sleeping together or shacking up and using adopting as a ploy. How they said adopted was another word for married and when she got older it will be known they were actually married.
"Jake! Dude we've been trying to get your attention," Loki waved his hand in my face. "Sorry was just thinking everything" "I understand, I was asking if you needed a lift to the garage," Loki asked "Yea, I messed up but that is my problem. Then I pissed off my ride and she left me here". "That you did. Better make up fast," He tossed me the keys to his truck.
How the hell do I get ahold of her to tell her she got a job. I'm not brave to go to her house. She might maim me.
