Katsuki made sure the food was alright to leave unattended for a short amount of time, then walked upstairs, slowly pushing open his bedroom door a tad and sticking his head in. (Y/n) was sitting in the corner of the room, knees pulled to their chest, and earbuds blaring some loud music. He opened the door all the way, stepping in and sitting down beside them. (Y/n) flinched and glanced over at him.

What did your family do to you... He thought, looking at them with sad eyes.

"Don't you have food to be making? That's more important than sitting here and staring at me." The stoic voice caught Katsuki off guard. They were so happy just a few minutes ago! What could've possibly happened that made their emotions drop so drastically?

"That's not true and you know it. What's wrong," Katsuki said firmly. (Y/n) looked at him for a minute eyeing his face. They shook their head, looking down at their phone.

"You like music?" (Y/n) asked, taking out their earbuds.

"Don't change the subject."

"I'm not changing the subject. If anything, I'm answering your question." (Y/n) unplugged their earbuds, turning their volume all the way up and rewinding the song.

Katsuki listened to the song, taking in every word. He recognized the voice right away to be (Y/n)'s. As the song continued, he was starting to understand at least a little bit of what (Y/n) was going through. Although, the song didn't even explain the half of it. It only described one of the many things that they were struggling with.

"You have food you need to tend to," (Y/n) reminded, bringing Katsuki out of his thoughts.

"Like I'm leaving you by yourself. Get up nerd," Katsuki said, standing up and reaching his hand out for (Y/n) to grab.

"No," they stated firmly. Katsuki scoffed and grabbed their arm, pulling them up forcefully, despite their attempts to pull away from him. They grumbled nonsense as Katsuki practically dragged them downstairs and threw them on the couch.

"Stay there while I finish making lunch," Katsuki said, going back into the kitchen to finish the food.

"Yuh-huh," (Y/n) mumbled, fumbling with a loose string of fabric on their hoodie.

Katsuki continued making the food, sending glances toward (Y/n) every now and then, making sure they were staying there. Which they were, to Katsuki's surprise, and they made no attempt to sneak away and go do something stupid. He was glad they didn't, but it was still unexpected to him.

(Y/n) sat on the couch, knees pulled up to their chest, tapping their knee somewhat anxiously to the beat of one of their songs. As they continued the tapping, they started humming the song. Katsuki finished cooking and watched them, almost captivated by the considerably soothing sound.

"Katsuki.. You're staring at me. What do you want?" (Y/n) asked, not even looking in Katsuki's direction. He shook his head, turning to the food and bringing two servings into the living room. He set them down on the coffee table in front of the couch, (Y/n) eyeing him curiously. "You didn't answer my question," (Y/n) stated in a cocky voice. Katsuki 'tch'ed and smirked, smacking the back of their head lightly.

"Your voice is nice I guess."

(Y/n) smiled a little, looking at Katsuki and raising their eyebrows.

"Then why the hell aren't you subscribed yet?" They grabbed Katsuki's phone from the side of the couch and threw it at him as he sat down. He chuckled, shaking his head.

"I'll subscribe when I want to subscribe dumbass," Katsuki said, shoving his phone in his back pocket.

"Yeah right. Who are you subscribed to anyway? Probably some little kid channel or a toy review channel knowing you," (Y/n) joked, smirking at Katsuki.

Katsuki completely paused, as if he were a robot malfunctioning, as he processed the words the teen beside him had just said. His fists clenched and he uttered one sentence in the most threatening tone he could muster.

"What. The hell. Did you just. Say to me."

(Y/n) shifted slightly, starting to regret their statement.

"It was just a joke... don't take it too seriously..."

"I'll kill you."

"Please do." Katsuki shook his head and stood from the couch angrily.

"DON'T FUCKING JOKE LIKE THAT," Katsuki yelled, his eyes ablaze. (Y/n) flinched at his tone and melted back into the couch cushions.

"I'm sorry.. I didn't mean it..." (Y/n) whispered. "You're probably subscribed to PewDiePie and Markiplier and..."

"I wasn't talking about that joke." Katsuki was now a lot calmer, but his gaze was still fiercely pinned on (Y/n). They looked up at him confused, still shaken up by his sudden outburst.

"Then.. what joke?" They asked, their anxiety levels rising steadily.

"When I said I'd kill you and you said 'please do.' Don't fucking joke about that. This is my house and under no circumstances will I allow you to make suicidal remarks or gestures. No way in hell am I letting you die anytime soon."

(Y/n) calmed down almost immediately, but then started crying, saying how they were sorry for being such a burden to Katsuki, and thanking him over and over again for allowing them to have a safe place to stay. He embraced them in a hug as they cried into his shoulder. Katsuki rubbed their back, whispering soothing reminders and making promises that he wouldn't let anything happen to them.

He greatly wishes he had kept that promise.
