He smiles at me, and wipes the tears from his eyes.

I don't know how close we were before the accident, but apparently I was pretty special to him, because every time he sees me, he cries.

.... I feel awful.

"So, what are we going to do?"

"Um, I actually didn't have anything planned..." He looks down, and awkward silence fills the elevator.

Then his eyes light up, and he looks back up at me.

"What?"

"I just had an idea."

----------

"See, the great thing about you not remembering anything is that, now I can take you anywhere, even if you've already been there a million times, and you can't complain, because technically, you've never been there before."

"That's good logic right there." I giggle, before stepping off the ferry and looking up at what's possibly America's most famous attraction. The Statue of Liberty, which, by the way, is so much bigger in person.

We step inside and he buys us the tickets, before we begin the long journey up the elevator to the crown.

By ourselves.

Not awkward at all.

I stand on the opposite side of the elevator from him, but I feel kind of bad so I scoot closer.. casually, of course.

He doesn't even pay attention.

I scoot even closer and kind of brush my hand against his.

Nothing.

I sigh, grabbing his hand in mine and ignoring the tingles that shoot up my arm, before looking up at his face and sending him a small smile.

He looks at me kind of nervously, then down at our hands, then back up at me.

I think he's nervous to be near me, after how I've been acting toward him ever since the accident.

But I mean, if I'm the one who grabbed his hand, then obviously that means I'm over it, right?

I pull out my phone with my free hand and text Emmy, realizing I never told her where I was going.

And, now that I think about it, I didn't lock the door behind me. Shoot.

I went out with Luke, you can drink both of the coffees, right? ;)

It kind of surprises me how close we've gotten over the past few weeks, actually. I didn't ever expect us to be as close as we presumably were before the accident, but I guess we have. I'm really glad, actually. It's so nice to have a friend, since I don't remember anyone else from before the accident.

I feel Luke intertwine our fingers together, before bringing them up to his his lips and placing a kiss on top of my hand.

"Thanks for coming with me." He smiles, showing off his award winning dimples.

He makes me want to curl up in a ball and never come out.

-----------

We finally reach the top, and seeing as it's getting late, most people have already left, wanting to get back to their hotel rooms before it's gets too late.

"It's even better at night, I don't know why no one is here. You can see the whole ocean from here, and if you look back," he turns around, "you can see the whole city."

I don't say anything, still in awe at the sight in front of me.

He gets out his phone and takes a picture of the Manhattan in the distance behind us. He's actually a really good photographer.

"You have to send me that," I laugh. "I'm the world's worst photographer, I swear."

"Nah, I don't think I will." He smirks.

I playfully slap him on the arm, then step forward so I can lean down over the railing and see the ocean below me, lit with ferries going back and forth across the ocean, and I even see a cruise ship in the distance.

I wonder if I've ever been on a cruise.

I wonder if I've ever been to New York.

I look back at Luke. "So if you live here, and I lived in Florida, how did we meet?"

"You came here to check out the colleges you were planning on applying to, and we met in the coffee shop I used to work at." He smiles, reminiscing.

"Oh." I whisper, wondering what it was like when I first met him.

"So, tell me about yourself. I feel like I know nothing about you, but yet, you seem to know everything about me." I nervously chuckle.

"Um, I'm a sophomore in college this year. When you met me, it was summer and I was working to try to save up for college tuition. This was last summer, by the way. So I had just graduated high school. I've lived in New York my whole life. I love coffee." He smirks. "Let's see, what else.... oh! I love penguins." I give him a funny look. "What? They're adorable."

I have to stop myself from blurting out, 'You're adorable.'

"Well, I'll give you credit for one thing," I say, looking out at the sky above me. "You know how to pick good dates."

"So this is a date then?" He smirks.

I mentally face palm. Why did I have to mess this up? It was going so well.

"No. I mean, if you want it to be, then.. maybe." I glance up at him, feeling my cheeks heat up.

"Then this is a date."
