I wake up to the sound of the front door to our apartment slamming shut, and a very angry Emmerson walking into my room.
"What the hell happened last night?" She demands.
"What do you mean?" I ask innocently.
"You said you were going to go out with Luke last night. You did not say you were going to spend the night with him!"
"It's not like I wanted to!" I shout at her, before realizing I should probably calm down. It's not like she has any idea what happened to us.
"Luke took me to see the Statue of Liberty and then we kind of got... stuck... on top of it."
She stares at me for a few seconds, I can tell she's trying to decide whether to continue yelling at me for not coming or home, or to burst out laughing.
She chooses the latter.
"Are you kidding?" She says in between laughs. "Your first night living in New York, and it's spent on top of Lady Liberty?"
I laugh with her, realizing just how dumb it actually was.
"Y'all didn't, like... sleep with each other, right?"
"EW!" I smack her arm. "I barely even know him."
"I don't think that's stopped you before." She continues laughing.
"Whatever, let's just keep unpacking."
Later that day, we head over to McDonald's, seeing as we have no food in our apartment.
So, here we are, sitting at our table, eating our food, when someone walks in.
Luke.
I swear that boy stalks me.
He orders his food, and after it's ready, he goes over to find a seat, but he stops dead in his tracks when he sees us.
I lift my fingers up and wave at him. "Haven't seen you in forever." I smirk.
"Why does it feel like you follow me everywhere?" He asks as he takes a seat at our table.
"I could say the same about you." I laugh, sipping my Dr. Pepper.
"Whatever. I was hungry. I got food. That's all there is to it."
"Well, Emmy and I were planning on going shopping today, to get stuff for our apartment, if you want to come with. You'd be a great help." I offer, really just wanting to spend more time with Luke.
"Uh, sure. I was going to clean out my stuff from my mom's house, and move it back into my apartment now that classes are starting soon. But, that sounds more fun."
"So you were living with your mom this entire summer?" I laugh.
"What? She's awesome and I wasn't able to see her last Christmas because I was with... my girlfriend, and her family. So I felt bad, and I told her I would stay with her over the summer."
"Oh." I nod.
"All right he can only come with if y'all promise not to make out the entire time." Emmerson laughs.
I slap her arm again. "I literally just started hanging out with him. We're not going to freaking make out already."
"So you're saying that we will eventually make out." He smirks.
I groan. "Let's just not talk about this."
He gets up to throw his trash away, and as he does, he leans down and whispers in my ear, "Don't worry, darling. You'll fall for me one day." I feel his breath on my neck, sending chills down my spine.
Emmerson just bursts out laughing. "That was great, Luke."
He glares at her.
"Let's just go." I say, not being able to take any more of this.

We decide to go to the mall first, because Emmy said there's a store there that has lots of cool stuff to decorate rooms with.
I immediately rush over to this large canvas of the Eiffel Tower, with the city of Paris in the background, and the whole tower lit up. It's so gorgeous.
"I need this!" I exclaim.
Em turns it over and looks at the price tag. "120 dollars. I don't think so, sorry Bri."
I groan. "Why does everything have to cost money?"
Luke just laughs. "You sound like a seven year old complaining because she didn't get the Barbie she wanted."
I give him the finger.
"Woah, calm down." Em says.
"Someone's on their period." Luke mumbles, and it takes everything in my power not to smack him upside the head.
"I want it though!" I whine. He was actually right though, I am on my period and I can get extremely cranky and whiny when that happens.
"You don't need a canvas that big!" Em tries to reason with me. "It wouldn't even fit on your wall."
I cross my arms over my chest and glare at her. "I happen to think it would look nice in the living room, right behind the TV."
She sighs. "I'll tell you what, if you really want it, your birthday is in less than two weeks, so I'm sure me and Luke can work something out to get it for you as a present." She glances at Luke, who just crosses his arms, glaring at her.
I look back and forth between the two, then burst out laughing once I realize what this is like.
They both look at me like I'm crazy. Maybe it's the hormones.
"Em, you sound like my mother, buying me the toy I really want for my birthday, and Luke is the grumpy dad who doesn't want to be here."
They both start laughing, too, once they realize the situation, and soon the whole store is staring at us, wondering what could possibly be so funny.
It's so hard to imagine that before the accident, I was so ... depressed.
I'm just so happy now, and I honestly couldn't imagine it any other way.
