Despite Gabe's extreme struggles with the Blood Moon, it actually helped him in a number of ways.
Firstly, it showed him how inadequate and underpowered he is and how he needs to do better.
Second, one of the monsters Gabriel, Andrew, Greum, and Edmund was able to defeat dropped an ultra-rare item: the Frozen Key.
The Frozen Key is usually used to open special chests in the Dungeon revealing weapons that usually give you OP privileges. However, Gabe's key was cursed by a powerful jungle creature, and there was not a chance in heck that he was going to be facing it anytime soon. However, having the ultra-rare key anyway wasn't ever going to be a bad thing.
However, that wasn't the best part. One of the Ice Slimes that Gabriel killed dropped the Amarok.
The Amarok is a powerful Yoyo dropped by any enemy in the ice biome. It does tons of damage and inflicts a frostburn onto any enemy struck with it. It was the first weapon Gabriel used that was a match for the Hardmode mobs.
Just then, this whole challenge, this whole adventure, powering up...
It all clicked.
If a person is in Hardmode, it is obvious that they've killed the world's guardian, and are assumed to be pretty powerful. Therefore the enemies are more powerful and naturally drop more powerful and useful things.
If Gabriel tried to craft weapons, it would take a loooooong time for him to get one powerful enough to use. However, if he safely and responsibly farmed for weapons, he would get a good one.
He headed underground and purposely went out of his way to shred things with his Amarok. He returned to the cliff from the night of the blood moon and got his vengeance on the mobs.
He dug underground, finding crystal hearts underground known as Life Crystals. They are materials that you can consume to increase your maximum lifeforce. He found a few of them and also mined a bit of ore. Lots of ore could mean lots of powering up, eventually leading to him being ready to fight the bosses. That said, would he be able to do it just as well as a glass cannon?
He eventually decided to stick with the Pearlwood armor momentarily as he didn't have enough gold or silver to craft a full armor set and iron armor was functionally identical to Pearlwood armor.
He built a few more houses for some more villagers to move in. He convinced a nurse to move in with his increased lifeforce and smashing clay pots underground yielded some silver bullets getting an Arms Dealer to move in. Though he built rooms for each person, he was sure Dominique the Arms Dealer spent a lot more time in the Kayla the nurse's house than his own. I can think of a million reasons why, and a lot of them involve romance and topics that are NOT for children.
Gabriel was starting to power up and get the upper hand on the Hardmode enemies. He figured it was time to power up and face his first boss.
But first, he had some business to attend to.
He had some loose ends to tie.
He traveled to the underground tundra to look for ice mimics. Mimics are deceptive enemies that disguise themselves as chests and then attack their victim with their sharp teeth and powerful strength. Andrew told him that mimics drop really good loot and ice mimics drop their own powerful unique loot. There were also powerful biome mimics that Gabe would tackle eventually, but he was way too underpowered for that at his current state.
Ice mimics were just as powerful as the standard ones, but dropped better loot, an opinion that can be debated. Gabriel was ready to head down to the Underground Tundra and take one on.
After searching for hours, he found a frozen chest that was hanging partly over a cliff. No doubt about it, that was the least sneaky mimic ever.
He threw his Amarok with great force. The mimic woke up and lunged at Gabriel, but the Amarok was able to deal high DPS, turning the mimic to dust. The loot it dropped consisted of 10 golden coins and a powerful sword called the Frostbrand. More or less matching the power of the Amarok, the Frostbrand was one of the last pieces of the puzzle.
He was going to fight his first boss: the King Slime.
