Chapter 6

Gales POV

Something hard hits my head and I faint. Through the dark I can almost hear someone scream; Catnip! She's screaming my name and I try to get up, but my body isn't listening. Peeta's mother kidnapped her! Why is she doing this to me??

"Gale! Gale wake up" I think it's Hazelle that's talking to me.

I open my eyes. Hazelle and my siblings is here and I hear Katniss's mother running upstairs. I suddenly hear a sob and Rory places a note in my hand.

>> "Dear" Gale! I've taken Katniss to be my hostage until you submit yourself to me or wait long enough. It doesn't matter which one of you I get to keep, but it has to one of you; Prepare to pay the ultimate price for killing my son! Sincerly Mrs Mellark

This can't be happening! Why didn't she just take me in the first place when she knows I'd submit myself for Katniss? The thoughts in my head is spinning and I feel nauseous. My face is pale and I moan.

"Gale, what's wrong" Hazelle takes my hand and shed a tear.

"Peeta's mother... She has..." I make an effort to say each word without breaking down "She has taken Katniss... She's her hostage until I submit myself".

"Oh Gale" Hazelle is crying now "Why would she do this and what is she going to do to Katniss or you"?

"I don't know" I answer "She said that it didn't matter which one of us she gets to keep" I continue "But apparently we have to pay because according to her it's our, mostly my, fault that Peeta took his life".

After that last word I can't hold it in anymore and I start to cry banging my head into the table.

"I swear I'll kill that b*tch if she as much as touches my Catnip"!

"Gale calm down" Hazelle lays her right hand on my shoulder "She won't touch her until you've made your decision so you could jump her when you meet her or something".

"That b*tch ain't bringing Katniss if I want to meet her, and I have to make a decision fast, tomorrow it could be too late" I growl "So how am I supposed to get her back so we'll both be safe or at least won't have any trouble with her again"?

"You'll figure something out, I know you'll do".

The next morning Katniss's mother says I'm good to go so I leave. I start thinking about how I can get Katniss back, but all of my plans I've thought of always ends with me killing Peeta's mother... I decide to let my footsteps guide me like I do sometimes in the woods.

After a while I'm standing outside the hob with no idea how it's gonna help me get Katniss back.

"Trouble, Gale"?

I turn around and look into Darius grey eyes. Darius, maybe he could help me.

"Yeah, Peeta's mother has Katniss as hostage until it's too late or I submit myself" I answer "But she wants one of us to pay the price".

"Do you have any idea where she could be" Darius asks.

"I could guess she's not in the bakery, that would be too obvious so I thi-".

"Or is it" Darius interrupts me "Think about it, she thinks we'll count it out because it's obvious" he continues "So there's a pretty big possibility that Katniss is there".

I try to convince myself he's right, but it seems too risky. If Peeta's mother finds out I'm trying to jump her with help from other people she might kill Katniss right away without doubt and mercy!

"It has to be a waterproof plan, that won't risk Katniss's life if we fail" I say.

"Sure, but what do I get" Darius asks "In case something or so I want to be sure it's worth it".

"Can't you just help an old friend" I'm almost yelling "But sure, you can kiss Katniss, ONCE"!

"Deal".

Will they be able to figure out a way to rescue Katniss?
