Gales POV

- Almost 4 months later -

I'm sitting in the living room, drinking some hot water with a spoonful of honey. Katniss is resting her head in my lap and I gently caress her hair while watching some random interview with a few capitol citizens about the recent blackout "It was horrible, I couldn't blowdry my hair" she shrieks.

Well her iq must be one of the highest!

I almost feel bad for her but I suddenly understand why the capitol is so messed up; Because of reporters like these who talks about blackouts instead of starving kids in the Seam or homicides, just anything more important.

Out of the blue the national anthem starts playing and both of our families gather in the big living room. Maybe it's President Snow with the "special rules" for the 75th hunger games.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 75th year of the hunger games" I was right!

We all stiffen as he keeps on talking and Katniss is curled up in a ball by the time he's about to announce the rules. It's dead quiet as he opens the envelope.

"As a reminder, that neither the brightest hope and strongest love can overcome power and fear, the male and female tribute will be a married couple, from each district"!

I can almost feel all eyes on me and Katniss as I process the information. Can we still be chosen? I mean I'm over 18 and Katniss is a victor. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it meant "any of the married couples from each district" ...

"This applies to every married couple, regardless of age and status" my blood is boiling "And no couple will be able to divorce in a depserate attemp to avoid being reaped during the reaping next week, starting with District 12".

These rules sounds very "made up by Snow"-like, especially that last part, and this is why I hate the regime. They put us through terror and suffering just for the amusement of the citizens in the capitol.

Hazelle is having a hard time trying to comfort everyone else because Katnisss mother is still not 100% mentally stable since her father's death. Katniss is screaming as loud as she can into my chest and I wrap my arms around her whispering in her ear.

-

After hours of crying and comforting we've all gathered by the fire so we can be together as one big happy family a little bit longer because who knows, Katniss and I might end up dead in the arena.

Suddenly the phone rings and because I know the others are to shaken to talk right now I answer "You've reached Hawthorne-Everdeen".

"Oh my god, Gale is that you"?

Cressida.

"Yes, how are you"?

"I'm the one who should be asking that, are you guys okay"?

"Yes, a little shaky and shocked but nothing life threatening".

"This might not be the right time but just know that if you're reaped I'll do my best to support you in any way" I can hear the tears in her eyes "Speaking for both me and Castor".

"Thank you" is all I can say.

"And I know it's been months since the wedding but I want to thank you guys again, it was beautiful and thanks to the generosity of the two of you Castor and I will graduate".

"Happy to hear that, but I have to go" I check the time 21:54 "Bye, maybe we'll meet again someday".

-

When I enter the living room again all eyes are on me. I walk straight over to Katniss and she falls back into my arms.

"Who was it and what did they say" she mumbles.

"It was Cressida, I'll explain everything later".

I look around at both of our families, everyone is looking pretty exhausted and almost like they've lost their will to live.

"You should all get some rest and we'll talk more about this tomorrow, maybe try to sort things out" I say and grab Katniss, carrying her bridal style.

"What about you? You've got to rest too Gale" she mumbles into my chest.

I remain silent as I tuck her in bed and turn around to grab a blanket.

"Please, Gale, stay with me".

"I will, I was just going to grab a blanket" I say and lay down next to her, taking for granted that everyone else can take care of themselves despite the circumstances.

"I'm not leaving you" I whisper wrapping my arms around her "Never".

"You know promising never, is always a bad thing! That's how Rue got killed" Katniss hisses "I promised I'd never harm her but since I let her out of my sight it's partly my fault! And I won't be able to forgive myself".

"Shh, it might not be okay but we're safe for now and there's nothing we can do besides wait" I whisper as I drift away to sleep to her heartbeat.
