Chapter 5: Daybreak
Mal's P.O.V.Today was my fourth day of recovery in the medical department. Loki would visit everyday for an hour and read Macbeth, aloud to me.
I received a call from my mother quite early in the morning than our usual Sunday talks. "Hey, mom how are you?" "Hi, sweetie I'm -you know same old but, I could ask you the same." "Are you feeling any better?" She addresses. "I'm good, it's pretty healed now and the pain is mostly gone." I reply, as I graze my side gently.
"Well, I'm glad to hear that." She sighs. "I was hoping this could shed some good news." Mom began. "What is it?" I inquire. "Your sister is getting married, Austin Matthews proposed to her." She discloses.
"Wow, congratulations." I smile. Or rather falsely.

Matthews was a good friend of mine when we were younger; he tutored me throughout middle school. Since he was older he felt like a brother but; as I developed feelings for him he seemed to grow captivation towards Audrey instead.

"I'll let her know." Mom replies.

A personnel steps in with a tray of lunch for today. "I'm not hungry." I ward, still upset.
Upset with the news of my sister's proposal. My damaged ovary, which led to a hysterectomy and; this aggressively abnormal condition that everyone calls powers. Why can't I just be normal?
"I'll take that." A deeper voice projects by the medical curtains. Loki walks over with the tray and plops on the seat by the bed. "There's no need to waste a perfectly good meal." He smiles as, he took his designated seat.
My chin quakes as I take a sharp breath, attempting to hold back a set of tears. I knew I shouldn't have because, it only made it worse. So, I find myself bawling in front of Loki.
"Hey, hey, it's alright." He soothes, rubbing my back. "Why do you even care, you probably think that I'm some pathetic little thing." I hiss. "Actually no, I see someone who has been strong for too long." He replies.
"Sorry." I soften. "Everyone has a breaking point, it's okay." He accepts. "Do you want to talk about it?" "It might make you feel better." He offers.
"Do you ever feel lost." I sniffle, wiping my eyes. "How so?" He coos. "Like, you want your life to turn out one way and it almost always takes you to another direction?" I explain. "Why do you feel that way?" He crosses his arms.
"It's just.... I've always envisioned pursuing a career as an educationist, being someone's wife and maybe starting a family of my own." "Then I realize, I can't have any of that." I conclude.
"I'm dreadfully sorry... that's a lovely dream." Loki replies. I shed one last tear as I play with my fingers.
"My fa- Odin taught me that, everyone has a purpose; some may have their's arranged for them and others have to find them, either way it's destiny." He moralizes.
"Thanks." I sigh. "What for?" He questions. "This is the longest I've been listened too. I chuckle. "Anytime." He smiles.

I seemed to recover pretty well so, Dr. Lambert discharged me a day early. It felt like the best emancipation ever. However, I had to wait a few days until I could start training again. I settled back into my quarters and sat up there for what felt like hours. But, my phone told me I had spent an hour instead. I was already up for a prison break so, I decided to prepare for an outing around the city.
As soon as I turn the corner in the hallway, I bump into a firm figure. "Excuse me." He states out of surprise. "Malinda?" He arches an eyebrow. "Loki." I reply.
"I went to medical department but Dr. Lambert said he had already discharged you so; Dr. Gert gave me the day off." He explains.
"Great, maybe you can accompany me to town; it'll give you a chance to get outside." I smile. He hesitates a bit before he answered. "Sure."

I took him for a trip to the shopping centre, all seemed fine since; he was well disguised and acted discreetly. He tried coffee, French fries and visited a book store for the first time.
The look of his eyes gleaming at the amount of books was effortlessly priceless. We must have been in there for hours, seeing that the sun had begun to set.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We were back at the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, this time on the rooftop. I found an entrance to this place when I desperately wanted to practice my flight.
Away from the track, that the research team had me use.
I could see the whole of New York from up here. It was even more beautiful at night; when the lights shimmered and gleamed throughout the busy metropolis.
"I underestimated the people of earth." Loki began. "We pretend on Asgard that we are more advanced but; never take the moment to see the beauty of life in other worlds." He leans back, closer to the wall behind us.
"I think you've made a whole lot of progress since you got here." I remark.
"Thanks by the way, for being the most welcoming out of everyone in the facility." He dramatically gestures in frustration; making me chuckle. "You're welcome." I smile.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We said our goodnights as we entered back into our quarters. I tried to remain neutral but, as soon as the doors closed I immediately softened. "Keep it together." I whisper to myself.
