THE NIGHT OF THE YULE BALL was one of lots of hustle and bustle. From the morning, the girls in Rosie's dorm insisted upon a pampering day of relaxation. After lots of bubbles and cucumber face masks, the girls decided that it was time to get ready for the actual ball.
"Rosie!" Tracey squealed. "I heard you're going with Draco to the Yule Ball!"
Rosie grunted as Pansy made a sound that resembled that of a dying pig. "I don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal out of it. We're good friends. Always have been." Rosie replied coolly.
Pansy made another dying noise. Daphne noticed and smirked. "So you don't like him? Pansy could ask him out then?"
"Of course."
Pansy squealed.
But Daphne's sly smile grew bigger. "Why don't you like Draco?"
Rosie nervously laughed. "Well, do I need a reason?"
"Well you obviously fancy someone else seeing how much you're blushing right now." If Rosie wasn't pink before, she definitely was now.
"W-what?"
"Oh don't be daft. We all know you fancy someone." She sat down excitedly on Rosie's bed, behind the vanity Rosie was standing in front of. "So? Who is it?"
"Well..." Rosie looked around. All of the girls were looking at her expectantly. "Well, I suppose I might fancy Harry."
"Ahah! You're in love with the Boy-Who-Lived!"
Rosie sputtered and continued to do her hair and makeup, thinking about her life and how much easier it would be if she didn't like Harry Potter.
--
"Fleur, Harry, Viktor, Cedric! Have you seen Draco anywhere? Professor McGonagall said we're going on soon but I can't find him!" Rosie was almost hyperventilating.
"Rosie! Calm down, I am sure Draco weel come soon. Oh look! E's 'ere. Look Rosie!"
Rosie turned around to look where Fleur was pointing. "Draco!" She walked up to the boy. And hit him. Hard. "You git! I was waiting in front of the common room for an hour! Where were you?"
"Rosie, you should know by now that Malfoy is unreliable." Harry pierced daggers and Draco, but the boy in question smirked back.
"Sad, Potter? Sad that Rosie chose me over you?"
"Back. Off. Malfoy."
"Boys, behave. The doors are opening." Both teenagers quickly scurried off to their respective partners at the sound of Professor McGonagall, but Draco didn't miss the chance to throw a sneer and the black haired boy.
Harry thankfully decided to ignore him and tactfully walked into the awaiting crowd inside the Great Hall. Taking his lead, Padma followed him, as well as the rest of the champions and their dates. After what felt like hours of dancing to Rosie, (not that she was bad at it, Mortie thought it would be necessary for her to learn how to dance, so everyone was captivated by Rosie and Draco's performance, the only two people who had been trained in dancing.) Rosie and Draco sat down. They sat in silence, Rosie looking curiously at Draco, who was uncharacteristically picking at the hem of his dress robes.
Suddenly, Draco announced, "Rosie, I like you. A lot. And I get that we're already good friends and I don't want to-"
"Tough luck, Draco." Daphne pulled up a chair at their table and stared straight into the eyes of a blinking Draco. "Rosie here," she patted Rosie on the back and Rosie smiled smally, "confessed earlier today. She has her eyes set on someone else."
Draco looked confused and hurt. "No, Draco, that's not what- Daphne, please shut up." Rosie snapped at a giggling Daphne. "Draco, it's just that... I like having you as a friend, and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm sorry." Rosie sadly walked away until she bumped into Hermione.
"Oh! Hello Hermione. Sorry, I didn't see you there."
"Oh that's alright. I was actually looking for you. Harry and Ron are being, well, they are being gits. I need you to talk some sense into them."
"Oh, of course. Of course." Rosie followed Hermione over to where Harry and Ron were sitting grumpily. "Hello boys," she sat down next to Harry. "Hermione wants me to put you in your senses but I'm going through a midlife crisis, so I'm going to rant. That's okay, right? Yes, okay. So, Draco just confessed to me- "
"He what!"
"Yes, yes, he told me he fancied me, and I don't fancy him," everyone breathed a sigh of relief. "And I didn't know how to put him down nicely, so then Daphne, the sneaky little witch decided to butt in and say that I fancied someone else, which I do, actually, but I couldn't tell him that, that's like, inhumane. So then I just told him that I liked being friends with him and wanted to keep it that way, but now that I said that, I'm never going to be friends with him again!"
Ron muttered an almost incoherent, "Yeah, thank Merlin." Rosie glared daggers at him and he slowly scooched away.
"Yeah well, I don't know why I'm here because the thing is, I fancy Harry! Isn't that funny? So why am I here, talking to... OH MERLIN'S SAGGY LEFT BUTT! I just said that didn't I?" Rosie looked anxious and wide-eyed. Harry looked gobsmacked. Out of nowhere, Rosie felt Harry's lips on hers, moving warmly and steadily, tasting of treacle tarts.
Rosie stood there, blinking, and soon started responding to the kiss with just as much passion. She was kissing Harry Potter! She heard some cameras clicking and possibly Draco saying, "WHO is she snogging?", but she didn't care. She did care, however, when Daphne somehow made her way to her and whooped. Ron, however, was less enthusiastic, grumbling about getting a room and not wanting to see his friends snog. Harry and Rosie broke apart, smiling dopily and finally realized that they had attracted a crowd. "About time." Ron muttered saltily.
Rosie blushed. Harry, well Harry looked like a beet. But that didn't matter to Rosie as she ignored all of the stares and started to snog Harry for the second time.
--
Back in the dorm, Daphne was making fun of Rosie. Hard. "So, Harry Potter, huh?"
"Daphne," Rosie groaned. "It was only two kisses for Merlin's sake. It's not like we're dating or anything."
"I bet he will ask you soon!" Daphne sing-songed. Rosie didn't reply.
She hoped. Hoped with all her might for the next couple days, weeks, and months, but to no avail. No Boy-Who-Lived wasn't going to ask her out soon.

Happy Halloween!
It's been a while, friends. what is it, 5 days? This is probably going to become the new norm from now on. School had been remote, which is why I was able to update everyday for a while, but we're slowly shifting into hybrid learning, where I go to campus a couple days a week. This means I actually have to pay attention...
Excited because tomorrow I'm going to San Francisco
What did y'all do for Halloween? Comment below!
Recently had a revelation that I should be thankful for my family even if my mother can be annoying.
REMEMBER: I don't own anything except Rosie, who is an oc. All else is Harry Potter and belongs to JK Rowling.
farewell my beauties,
ginger
