The "Evil One" is truly present, not just in our world, but in ourselves. And we do not ever know where he might come from. He can reach us in the most unexpected places, through our love, our mercy, our trusted friends and family. But that does not mean we ought to shun our fellow neighbours out of fear. Like a terrorist wishes to cause terror through destruction, Satan wishes to sow discord through the spreading of violence, lies and malcontent. It is not with us that the strength to overcome his evil lies; it is with our Lord, who will save us in the end - just like he saves us every day if we place our trust in Him. And I do not refer to temporal safety. I refer to the safety of our souls, through which we will live eternally with God if we profess our faith in Him.
Unless we throw away our salvation by giving into, or falling for the devil's lies, God will protect us like nothing else can. We should keep our eyes open for the devil because he wants to destroy us and steal us from God. But in this, we should also never take our eyes, our minds, our hearts off God, against whom the devil is completely powerless.
