Y/N looks at aether her eyes slowly brimming with tears.
" please, stay safe on your journey. "
she mumbled, he nodded pulling her into a tight hug.
" I won't ever ever forget you, once this journey has reached its end, I'll bring you with me. "
he had said, making her smile slightly but soon shook it off.
" just please, don't forget me. "
she mumbled, holding onto him even more. he nodded, gently rubbing her back.
soon enough, he slowly lets go of her.
" I'll be off now, please, be safe. "
" mhm, I will, you too okay? "
they both smiled, not knowing it would be the last time they would see eachother.
after a few days, aether decided to visit mondstadt again, but when he got there, Y/N was nowhere to be found. when he had asked jean where she was, jean said she was on a mission.
he nodded and walked out of the room. he decided to wait for her to get back. he walked around mondstadt until jean and the others had rushed outside of the headquarters, aether looked slightly confused but saw kaeya carrying a girl, trying his best to run back as quick as he can.
he widened his eyes seeing Y/N bleeding. he rushed over to them, kaeya had placed Y/N down.
" what happened?! "
jean had asked trying to stop the bleeding, failing.
" she was busy dealing with some hilichurls but then a abyss mage appeared and jabbed the ice right in her. "
kaeya explained, aether ran to her side. pulling her into a hug. tears started to flow down his cheek, he was the closest to Y/N.

he cried, everyone around them felt pity for the poor boy. he cupped her face, gently caressing her cheek.

he cried more lower this time, but she was already dead by that time. jean tried to separate them, but aether refused.

jean had mumbled but aether refused to listen to them.
after a few minutes, his grip around her slowly loosened, his throat went dry before getting up.
" please, I want a proper burial for her. "
he had mumbled, they all nodded before he headed to Y/N's room, he opened the door, her scent was all over the room, oh how he wished to hold her in his arms again. he looked at her desk seeing a bunch of letters, he raised a brow seeming as the letters were arranged by day. he tried finding day one, succeeding, he opened the letter.
" day one, aether had left to go to liyue and find his sister, I wished I could've accompanied him. but I still had a lot of duties in mondstadt, I hope that one day, I'll be able to go with him on his journey, I hope one day, I'll be as brave as him. one day, I promise I will go with him. "
he widened his eyes, these letters were about how her days went after he left for liyue. he immediately searched for the second day, but a letter had caught his eye, the letter had no label on it, but it was meant for aether.
he opened the letter hesitantly before reading it.
" dear aether, I don't know if you'll be able to read this letter, but if you did, I'm sorry for not telling you sooner, but I love you. I love you from the bottom of my heart. hopefully, one day, we'll be happy together without anything to worry about. love, Y/N "
as he read it, his tears started to fall down. he had failed to keep his promise of keeping her safe, he folded up the letter, placing every letter in his bag.
