As I took out my mobile which had the videos, someone pushed me from behind and my phone was thrown away from my hand to the busy road with cars.
Obviously in a few minutes, my phone was in pieces erasing our evidence that could prove the truth.
We left for Larry’s house then. It was starting to become our headquarters or something like that where we planned everything as Larry’s dad came home later in evening everyday.
“Can you recover the files?” Ashish asked.
“No.”
“Then try. Do anything.” She literally shrieked at me.
“Chill down.” I said a little irritated at her attitude.
“You want me to chill down when my father is a criminal who could kill the three of you also if he get’s to know what we are doing. I don’t want any more deaths at my expense by my loving father.” She screamed at us highlighting the sarcasm while talking about her dear daddy.
“I am sorry for that.” I said honestly with regret.
“What should we do now?” Larry asked.
“What can we do? The evidence is erased. There is no way four teenagers can prove that a wealthy man is a murderer. Who do you think the people will believe? A wealthy man who acts sweet around the people or a girl who blames her father for murder. People might even think Esha is doing it for her father’s money. Imagine the headlines, Pratham Singh’s daughter accuses him of murder so that she could claim his money.” Larry said.
“So we should give up?” Ashish asked.
“No. I can’t.” Esha said.
“Yeah. We should find a path out of this. We can’t let him be loose on the streets killing other people.”
“Yes. I can’t stay with a murderer.” Esha said.
“What do you think we can do?” Larry asked.
“I want to confront him.” Esha said.
“Not again Esha.” Larry said with a glint of fear of losing Esha in his eyes.
“But I want to.” Esha said.
“No. You are not....” Larry was saying when I interrupted him.
“Wait. Let her confront him.”
“Are you mad?” Larry glared at me.
“People won’t believe if we said he killed Rehan. But they will if he confesses the murder.”
“Why will he confess?” Ashish asked.
“He will confess to Esha in a way of showing his superiority. And we will record it in our mobiles. This time there will be two videos so no chance of happening what happened now.”
Ashish and Esha were nodding their heads in acceptance but my idea didn’t budge Larry even a bit.
“I am not risking Esha’s life for anything like this.” Larry said with a cold expression and left the room.
We followed him out of the room and saw him sitting in the hall staring out of the window. I could sense him trying to control his tears.
“Larry.” Esha said keeping a hand on his shoulders.
“Hmm.” Larry mumbled.
“I know you are denying to this because you don’t want to lose me. But there is a chance that everything could be alright.”
“We thought there was this time too.” He whispered.
“I know. But we can’t give up. We have to take the risk.”
“What if something happens to you?”
“It would be more painful if I don’t take the chance. If this goes properly, that person would not stay in our house anymore. My mother and me will be free of his wrath. Please understand.” Esha said and I could feel tears in my own eyes too. But I let them fall rather than wiping them. I could do with being a little vulnerable.
“It’s okay. I agree with this.” Larry said after a while.
“So when are we going to do this?” Ashish asked.
“Tomorrow.” Esha said and we agreed.
“Let’s go out somewhere.” I suggested and all agreed.
We went to malls and restaurants and ate as if it was our last day on earth. Ironically, it could be our last day on earth if anything goes wrong.
“What do you think will happen tomorrow?” Larry asked as each of us gobbled Aloo parathas down.
“Can we not talk about that?” Esha said with a frown. No matter how much she tried, the fear was evident in her face too.
“Yes bro. Seize the moment.” Ashish said.
“Actually it’s the contrary.” I said.
“What?”
“I saw it in a movie ‘Boyhood.” It’s like we don’t seize the moment. The moment seizes us.”
I regretted adding that as the trio of them were staring at me as if I was some alien.
“Never mind.” I said and continued my makeout with the parathas and chutney.
We started laughing without reason and then left the shop. It was feeling as if the murders and all the things didn’t happen. I wish this moment never passed.
But it did and after a long sleep at our homes, we reached Esha’s house the next day.
“Best of luck.” I told Esha and Larry hugged her.
We took our places in different corners of the house and took out our phones charged to 100%.
It was happening. I was waiting for her father to come home, when suddenly Esha’s mother opened the door behind which I was hiding.
We forgot about Esha’s mother in the planning and being the traditional wife she was, our plan was in danger.
