“Ashish. I need your help. We need to find Rehan.” I called my saviour frantically.
“What happened?” he asked confused.
“We will tell that later just help us now.”
“Us?”
“Me and Esha.”
“Where is she?”
“She’s with me. Please help me.”
“What? How is she with you?”
“With all due respect, please shut up and find him.” I said in a angry tone.
He had cut the call with a hefty sigh and it reminded me to apologise to him later. He would not hold a grudge like Rehan. Rehan had given another chance to me. I messed that up also.
“Shit. He shouldn’t have known like this.” She said shrugging.
“I can’t disagree.” I said as I sat on the couch with my mind exploring different possibilities.
· He would make peace with the breakup, forgive us and be happy for me and Esha. (Not going to happen in this dimension).
· Rehan would give her another chance and everything could be back as it was. (Just minus me from the equation.)
· He would never forgive us and would be staying alone. Maybe Ashish would join him. Who wants to stay with someone who cheats on their best
friend.
Everything was going to be miserable now. I was better being the loner self. I shouldn’t have come back when they had thrown me out of the group. I made things worse for Esha too. She was already facing so much at her home but this was something which made everything worse. She looked forward to spend time with us. Now there would be no us.
The thing I was most afraid of, was what if everyone in school knew what happened. Esha would be tagged as a slut and that was something I hated. That word alone made me feel goosebumps. This was so unfair. If Rehan would have left Esha for some other girl, none except some people would lay a finger on him. And now Esha would be made fun of, bullied and believed by none. I hated the inequality and hated myself more for not doing anything to stop the inequality.
My thoughts were interrupted as my phone rang. It was Ashish.
“Hey. I found him.” He said. Hearing that I was happy and worried at the same time.
“Where?” I asked.
“You remember the hospital I was admitted in?”
“Near there?”
“No. There.”
“What?” I asked knowing what he meant but I didn’t want to believe it.
“History has repeated. Just come here.”
I took Esha with me but didn’t tell her with a hope that he would be okay. But we saw Ashish stood outside waiting for us.
“What happened to him?” I asked with my voice full of concern.
“He had an accident.” He said to which our faces turned pale.
“Is he okay?” we asked hoping for a positive answer.
“To be honest, no.”
“What?” my hopes were taking a step down by each of Ashish’s words.
“It was just the same accident as his mother and father had been it.”
“Will he survive?” I asked.
“Yes.” He said and added probably a micro second later.
“We have to stay here for long.” He said to which I nodded.
“So if it’s okay, can you tell me what happened which you were going to tell later?” He said to my hesitation. We had to admit our mistake now. The mistake due to which Rehan’s life was on stake.
“I kissed Esha.” I stuttered. His face was worth being laughed on but the situation couldn’t even make me smile.
“What? How? When?” he showered a series of questions on me.
“Today. She told me she wanted to breakup with Rehan because she realized she didn’t have feelings for him anymore.”
“What?”
“Yes. And she told me she liked me. I know that’s surprising. Then she came closer and kissed me.” I said.
“Where did Rehan come in all this?” Ashish asked.
“Rehan had a spare key of my house. He had left his father’s watch when he moved out. He entered the house while we were kissing.”
“Shit.”
“Yes.”
“Shit.”
“You already told that.”
“No. I mean see that.”
I turned to direction he pointed to see Esha’s father approaching. I looked everywhere to find a place to hide but he had seen me. His eyes locked into mine.
