AMALIA
Red or black?
Red is more sexy, and black is more sophisticated and elegant.
I want to look a little intimidating, what should I choose?
Looking between the two dresses, I settled on Black. I want to look intimidating today, yet elegant. Today I am going to the weekly circle meeting, and I can't wait to see everyone's expression when they see me.
Of course, not everyone thinks I am dead, just the guilty ones, who sent those men after me.
Putting my hair up in a ponytail, I look over myself in the mirror, and feel satisfied with how I look.
Walking down the spiral stairs, I make my way to the dining room to eat my breakfast. I am 15 minutes late today, as I took my sweet time in the morning.
"Bongiorno." I greet Annie and Alessandro, "—where is Isabella?"
"She called sick today—I told her to stay at home." Annie explains as I clench my jaw.
Why didn't I know earlier? I have some work that needs to be done.
"Fine." I roll my eyes and sit on my usual seat, at the head of the table.
"Sorry for being late." I say and start eating, with them following me.
Today's breakfast: the typical Italian breakfast prima colazione, which consists of caffè latte (hot milk with coffee) with bread rolls and butter and jam.
I love it.
"Are you sure you want to go to the meeting today?" Annie asks worriedly.
"I have too. We have to discuss Jeremy's death and who's going to take after his work." I reply as I bite a piece of bread roll.
"Isn't it dangerous?"
"It is, but I don't care—besides, Alessandro and Gino will be with me." I explain earning a frown from Alessandro.
"Gino? Why is he coming? I thought you need one only." Alessandro asks, clearly annoyed.
I send him a glare and don't reply to him.
"Annie, stay home and don't go out. Donte will be with you and the rest of the guards."
"Okay, don't worry about me—worry about yourself now."
"I can do both." I say as I drink up my latte.
As we finish breakfast, Gino comes into the dining room.
Some part of me doesn't trust him fully, but we'll see.
"Morning beautiful." He says as he places his arm around my shoulder.
I quickly slap his arm away.
"Don't touch me." I roll my eyes playfully, but with a serious tone.
"Ouch." He says, putting his palm on his heart, acting as if he's hurt.
I felt a pair of eyes glaring at the side of my head, but I ignored it knowing very well that it's Alessandro. I just don't know what's going on with him.
Bipolar.
"What time are we leaving?" He asks as he takes one bread roll from my plate.
He used to always do that when we were younger.
"Now." I say as I stand up and Alessandro doing the same.
