A Mermaid's Kiss

The Encounter

Josiah was an average 17 year old who liked what most boys his age did. He liked playing video games and hanging around girls. But what he really liked to do was to run. He loved to run and was on an athletic sprint team and loved it with all his heart. So everyday whenever he wasn’t at practice, he would go to his nearby beach and run across a good mile and then went back home. But today was very different than the other days. Today felt different, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Because today he was about to have an unbeknownst encounter awaiting him. But before we get into that, we gotta talk about who he will soon be encountering, Coral.

Coral was an average mermaid. A 17 year old one. She was born in Atlantis. And the king had chosen her for a very special and important job. She was to recover a gem that was stolen from the merpeople by humans a long time ago. But the humans have forgotten about merpeople as they have been lost to the sands of time. So now she was ordered to recover the gem in this strange new world by herself. So as she swam to the surface she thought of the weight on her shoulders she vowed to do what she was chosen to do and broke the surface of the water. Then her tail changed to human legs and she started to walk on the beach. 

As coral walked on the beach her mind wandered and she did not notice the boy running towards her. Josiah had his earbuds in and had his eyes closed for he knew no one was up this early. He was singing one of his favorite songs at this point and never opened his eyes. Josiah bumped into Coral, knocking her out of her daydream that she was enjoying. Coral fell on top of Josiah and accidentally kissed him on the forehead. This is how their story begins.

“Ow! Watch where you’re going!” yelled Josiah while still recovering from the sudden encounter. 

"Ouch! I'm sorry!" She is recovering also when she sees his forehead glow gold for a second. Then she realised what she did. Josiah sees her worried expression that she had gotten written all over her face.

“What’s wrong?”, Josiah asked.

But Coral had no time for this and had a mission to do. She could not afford this right now. 

"Nothing! I have to go!", she said.

She gets up and runs down the beach. Josiah was very weirded out by this strange encounter with this random woman that he has never seen or met before. He then notices a sudden pull inside of him to go to the ocean but he ignores it. He tries to keep running but feels very strange inside. He doesn’t know what it is yet, but he feels it calling his name somehow. “What is happening to me?”, Josiah thought to himself. He tries to think of every possible thing that could at least explain any part of what he was feeling, but Coral was having her own issues by the point.

Coral walked through the town looking for the gem. She went looking through glass windows and looking through the stores but she kept thinking about the boy and what she just did to him. She knew the gem was here, that's why she was sent here. She would deal with this problem later.
