The Preparation

    Desire picked up her phone and looked at the new notification.

ONE MESSAGE FROM JACOB

Her heart started to race and she freaked out a bit. She totally forgot about the boy that they met earlier today. Coral looked over Desire's shoulder and saw Jacob's name over the notification. She got excited and said, "Oh~! Your crush is texting you~!" Desire blushed and got very flustered. She playfully hit Coral and said, “Shut up! He is not my crush! He is just a boy we happened to meet.” Desire was slightly annoyed at Coral but more excited to see what he texted her. Coral smiles and sarcastically said "Ow that hurt! You are almost acting like a sibling!" Desire laughed and replied, “That’s what you get! Now let’s see what he said to me.” She read the text, Hey...Desire, right? How are you? How is ya friend Coral? Desire was getting very excited and nervous at this point. How do I respond? This is kinda weird because every other time I talk to a guy, it has never felt this hard. Desire was struggling to think. But she knew whenever someone asked that question, she should just answer it without thinking. She replied to him that her and Coral were doing well. He remembered my name… she thought. Jacob replied through text, Cool! Hey do ya wanna hang out later, maybe tomorrow? 

When Desire read this message, she froze. She didn’t know what to do. She started to freak out and exclaimed, “Coral! What do I do?! What do I say?!” Coral giggled and said, "Well say yes! It's a great opportunity!" Desire was very nervous and many questions started to rush through her head, “But what if he doesn’t like me? What if I mess up? This is too much for me, Coral. I can’t just say yes.” Coral looked at her with some slight disappointment and responded, "Stop worrying. Say yes, trust me." Desire was very hesitant about it but did it anyway. She replied to his text saying that she could hang out. Coral smiled at the ship opportunity. Desire had her heart racing at this moment and couldn’t think straight. It’s just a hangout. It’s just a hangout. It’s just a hangout. Coral said "Ask him where he wants to meet up!" Desire texted him what Coral asked and he responded, Maybe the park in town?  Coral said, "You better say yes." Desire shook her head, she was already regretting this. “Why should I?” Coral responded "Just do it. Trust me." Desire sighed and said, “Fine. I’ll go hang out with him at the park.” Coral said with a sassy tone, "Well answer him! Before he changes his mind!" Desire finally texted him and said sure. She was really tired though and wanted to rest. Coral looked at Desire to see her eyes looking like they were about to fall asleep and said, "Are you tired? You had a long day today." Desire nodded her head and got herself ready for bed. Coral got comfortable on the floor then her and Desire slept peacefully through the night.

The next morning, Desire woke up and yawned. It was a beautiful day and she saw the window open. Then there was this very quiet voice, “What a beautiful day today to get some food. This creature seems to have lots of room.” Desire was very confused and tried to find where the voice was coming from. She rubbed her eyes so she would wake up a little bit more to be more aware of her surroundings. Then she heard some rustling next to her window to see a bird sitting at her window’s crest. Desire smiled and looked at the bird, “I could have sworn I heard a voice earlier, but you wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you little birdy?” Desire giggled. The bird tilted its head in slight confusion, “What are you talking about? I heard no voice.”

Desire freaked out and screamed, “AAAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!!! TALKING BIRD!!!!” It was so loud, it could have woken up her parents across the hallway. But luckily, it didn't. Coral jolted awake and said in a groggy voice, "What the hell, Desire?! What's wrong now?" Desire started to hyperventilate and pointed her shaky finger to the window. The bird was already gone though. “There was a talking bird right there! I saw it!” Desire was scared outta her pants right now. She didn’t know what to do. Coral responded "Oh. Yeah. This is normal for a mermaid. You can talk to animals now. I'm going back to sleep." Coral lays back down and puts her blanket back on. Well that was one way to start my day off for my dat- I MEAN HANGOUT Desire thought.

Coral thought Desire was going to tell some more or freak out more but she didn't. Coral sat up from the floor and said "Do you want to know why you can hear animals in the first place?" Desire was very curious on why she should even be able to hear them and was gonna ask her that anyways. “Yeah! I wanna know every reason why!” Coral sighed and said, "Well remember when I told you that there were a lot of mythical creatures? Well each one has a job. The Mermaids job is to make sure that the oceans and water stays stable and part of that is making sure that all animals stay in their proper place and you need communication for that to work." Everything started to make sense now for Desire. Of course! That makes so much more sense! This will be much easier to handle now that I know why I have it. Desire felt a feeling of relief now that she knew why what happened was happening. Coral saw her happy smile and said "Cool right? Just don't talk to them too much or they will never leave you alone. I learned that the hard way. I still have a blue whale following me around." Desire laughed at her. Coral responded, "Shut up! And go take a shower, you have a date waiting for you~." Desire got flustered and blushed again. She quickly took a cold shower and went back to her room with a towel wrapped around her.  Now, what to wear…… 

Desire went to look for some appropriate clothes but Coral had already picked out an outfit for Desire and had it set on her bed. Desire looked over at the clothes and said, “I can’t wear these, they seem too revealing and tight for me...” She picked up the skirt she really liked earlier, “Seriously? This?” Coral said "Well yeah! It's a date! You have to look pretty! Get dressed then I will do your hair!" Desire grumbled and said, “Ugh, fine. But this is just a hangout. We ain’t doing no kissing or hand holding or whatever you are thinking.” Desire put on her new clothes and felt strange in these new clothes. Coral said, "Don't you look stunning! Now turn around and I’ll do your hair!" Desire was feeling slightly awkward. Sure she looked good, but she wasn’t a complete girl mentally so she still felt somewhat wrong. Coral walked up behind Desire with hair clips and ties and styled her hair. Coral said "There! You look amazing!" Desire got a mirror and inspected her hair. She did look good...too good. Is this really necessary? I’m not gonna be trying to impress him...right? Well, whatever the case, I just hope that he thinks I’m cool. Become friends… Desire started to drift in thought. Coral was reading Desire's mind. She knew she was daydreaming about Jacob. She sensed that her male side was slowly disappearing. Desire was becoming more girly by the hour. Maybe we could become more than friends one day….Desire was submerged in her thoughts. Coral said "Desire? Earth to Desire?" Desire snapped out of it and looked at Coral while blushing, “You didn’t hear any of that, did you?” Coral responded "I heard everything~!" Desire started to blush even harder at this point. Coral said "Now I am going to help with your makeup!" She grabs the lipstick and starts to put it on Desire. Desire thought she was starting to feel like a true girl. “Wow, I look great!” I can’t wait for Jacob to see…

Coral said "There! You look perfect! You are ready!" Desire was starting to get nervous, “Are you sure?” Desire was getting nervous about meeting Jacob in this new design. Coral responded "Yes, I am sure." Then they both went downstairs to meet their mom already down there. “Hey girls! I see that Desire is going on a date?” Desire got annoyed, “IT IS NOT A DATE.” The others laughed and smiled.
